Which currency in Turkey?

Visiting Istanbul this summer. Aware that they use the new Tukish Lira. However our hotel rate is given in Euros. Which currency should I use for our stay? What do I use for the cab driver at the airport? Are dollars readily accepted?

Hi

The Turks love euro and USD - they are more stable currencies. Why else do they quote in euro? :) However learn to use the Lira. You will have a better handle of what exactly you're paying.

When I was in Turkey prices were in Lira and more increasingly in Euros. I never saw prices posted in USD and with the tremendous decline of the dollar I doubt that it would be widely accepted. I used Lira for all cash transactions and credit cards when I could.

oops - I don't think my link is right.

Just put "American Dollars in Turkey" into the search box and you should find it.
