Which City
 

I have a night and two days in Switzerland in April week 1? Any suggestions on which city to spend the time: Bern or Geneva or some other city?

I don't know if you've ever been to Switzerland before.<BR><BR>I'd take Bern. Very good jump off location. Walk Bern in the morning and then train either 20 minutes south to Friburg (very nice town) or 20 minutes east to Thun. Actually Lucerne is just over an hour away from Bern. You can walk around Lucerne for several hours or even do the Alpnachstadt-Pilatus route. We did exactly that over 20 years ago.<BR><BR><BR>On day 2 take a train to Interlaken, Lauterbrunen, Murren and then the cable car up the Schilthorn (about an hour train ride). Great view of the big three (Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau).

Geneva would be pretty ordinary in April. I agree with Myers' suggestion of Bern for its location. Does it have to be a city. Why not Interlaken, just a short distance from Bern. and right in the middle of the scenery, with excellent sightseeing train rides etc daily. Probably too early in the year for lake cruises unfortunately, but worth checking out.

I'm with the others, Bern over Geneva any day. Geneva is pretty non descript while Bern is very historical. In fact isn't it a UNESCO world heritage site? And do go to Interlaken if you have the time. In fact, if you really have time Lauterbrunnen would be even more beautiful and less crowded than Interlaken.

Myer's idea sounds fine for me, but one night and two days will be frustrating. I love Berne. It's easy to get to Thun's lake and spend some time on one of their lovely lake boats. <BR><BR>An alternate might be Lucerne, with a bit of time on its lake and up into the mountains.<BR><BR>Or there's Zurich and delightful Rapperswil via one of its lake boats. I'm just muddying the waters, I know, but what a fun decision. J.
