Which Carte Orange zones to buy
 

We are staying out in Versailles, and we will be using the metro to make the long trek into Paris daily. We arrive on Mon. and will depart on Sat. We are going out to La Vallee by Disneyland. My question is this: Should we buy a Carte Orange for zones 1-5 and just buy an extra ticket to go to La Vallee? Or, should we go ahead and buy the Carte Orange for Zones 1-7 since there's only about a 4 or 5 Euro difference? What would be the most economical? Any other suggestions?

YOu don't need a zone 5 for Versailles nor a zone 7, for sure. There's hardly any place the RER even goes beyond zone 5, no where a tourist would go that I can think of. The line that Disneyland is on doesn't go beyond zone 5. I suppose you might as well just get the zone 5 if you plan to go to Disneyland, for convenience.

Your best strategy is to get a Zones 1-4 CO for your commute from Versailles, and supplements for the odd trip to a further-out zone.

If you plan to take the RER back and forth to CDG, then a Zones 1-5 would make sense, and will get you to Disneyland as well.

The RATP sales office is right at the RER station between Halls C/D and F.

By the way, you need a 1" square photo when you buy your Carte Orange. Digital is OK.

Do you know the price for zone 1-5 Carte Orange? And is there a disount for students ages 17 or 18?

According to the ratp website, a carte orange for zones 1-5 is 30,20E ($40.68). I believe I've read on previous posts that there is no discount for students. There may be a discount w/ a Paris Viste pass...

There is no discount for students on Paris Visite or Carte Orange. Most things people call student discounts are often just age discounts. There are some age discounts for the "ticket jeune" which is an all-day pass for Sat-Sun and holidays for those less than 26. French students can get a special reduced pass which I think may be yearly, but that isn't relevant for tourists. Tourists can't get discounts on transportation passes for being a student. Any discount for tourists on transportation tickets are age-related, not due to being a student. Aside from the ticket jeune, I don't think there are any for those aged 17-18, only much younger.

<i>Paris Visite</i> is about half price for ages 4-11.

how much is the Carte Orange ticket for zones 1-5? also, can I just bring a photo from a digital camera that was printed on regular paper?

yes, you can print your own photo.. it should be small (1x1 inch) of face.

You probably already know that your Zone 5 will get you in from CDG, but I wanted to mention it because it hasn't come up here.

actually, i arrive on saturday am, while the rest of my family arrives on monday am. a couple of questions if anyone can help................
1. what type of two day pass should i get for coverage of zones 1-5?
2. can i buy the carte orange passes on saturday if i have all the photos of the others with me? (the CA passes can only be used stating on a monday, correct?)

Why do you think you need a 1-5? Unless you use all the zones every day, there are better strategies.

5 days of rer train to paris center plus at least three or four metro rides a day equals approx 20 euros a day X5 days = 100 euros, vs 31 for a CO pass zone 1-5???? or am i missing something?
