Which bank in Scotland?
Is Barclays ubiquitous in Scotland or should I count on not using my BofA ATM card, and using by credit union card instead?
|
Barclays is definitely not ubiquitous in Scotland. Here's a TinyURL with some of their Scottish branches. I'm not sure if this is all of them. Some were formerly Woolwich branches and when I was last over there a few years ago, you had to go to a Barclay's branch, not a Woolwich branch.

Thanks.

Yes, but the banks are all linked. You can us the card at any bank ATM and that of most building societies.
just make sure you've got a 4 digit PIN |
Sheila OP gets shafted for about $5 every time they use their card abroad - except at Barclays
I'd personally be looking at getting anther check account with someone reasonable |
Sheila
The OP is specifically looking for Barclays ATMs as they are in global alliance with Bank of America for nil withdrawal fees (plus whatever they add on for foreign exchange conversion). |
Just out of interest, was I meant to know that?:)
|
No, Sheila. The OP didn't give enough detail. I've just been there, done that!

Be careful with credit union ATM cards. Some are not members of the major ATM networks - and if not won;t work in many places. Goggle the networks listed on your card to be sure they have a lot of ATMs in europe.

The list in the above tinurl is incomplete. Go to the "search again" button and click on Barclay's/Woolwich ATMs, then type in a city name. There are ATMs in more locations throughout Scotland, but mainly at Woolwich, not Barclay's branches.

I do not trust BofA to consider Woolwich a member bank. So I'll stick with my credit union card except where I find a Barclays, and deposited the estimated need into that account. The CU card has worked all over Europe, so it should work in Scotland.
For the curious: my income checks are automatically deposited in my BofA account. I'll be gone for two months and want to draw down on the BofA account whenever possible. |
