Firstly, let me make you aware that it is members only after 11pm.

It's in Soho, and has an atmosphere reminiscent of a thirties drinking den. Rich heavy colours, red leathers, subtle service, and the faint odour of cigar smoke. Drinks here are second to none and exceptionally keenly priced. A bottle of Krug NV is only 90GBP, just over 20% mark up. Cocktails are prepared with the freshest ingredients - home pressed pineapple juice - and mixed well. It feels exclusive and has the grace and charm of a bygone era - far more original than the more modernist Long Bar.

mk2, what time do you usually start washing dishes there?

tudorprincess Sep 24th, 2004 06:06 AM

I'll add this to my list. Do you have an address or will it be easy enough to find just by asking someone?

degas Sep 24th, 2004 06:21 AM

Here you go:

61 Poland Street, London, W1F 7NU
Tel: 07000 MLKHNY

Seriously, its a pretty nice place. Management is sometimes not overly friendly. Worth a look.

Milk and Honey is at the bottom end of Poland Street, but it doesn't have a sign outside, it's just a black door. You should phone to make a reservation as it has very limited numbers (although not such a problem earlier in the week). The website is www.mlkhny.com and the telephone number is 07000 655469 or +44 207 292 9949 if calling from the States.

I have to wholeheartedly agree with m_kingdom2, this is one of my favourite bars and quite different to anything else in London, probably has a slightly more 'NYC' feel to it. You will get the best cocktails here at a very reasonable price, and because it's so small (180 people max over 3 floors) it's very intimate.

Thanks degas. Is this a nightclub? Bar?

lyban -
You mentioned in a previous post above that you were looking for a good London street map. Personally I love PopOut maps by Rand McNally. I have them for several cities including London. They're small but sturdy (whoever invented laminated maps should get a Nobel prize IMO), fold up into about the size of a floppy disk, and show all the major sites plus a lot more info in an easy to read format. You can get them at most bookstores in the travel guide section, or order them from Rand McNally's website, which is the best place to get them if you also want maps from smaller cities. However be aware that they will show just the city center; the outlying areas will require a bigger map. I've also hear a lot of people praising the A-Z maps.

For map viewing on line, Multimap.com is really great.

Thank you Daisy 54. I have a question for Monica. Are you the lady that advised me about a year ago about a place in St Remy de Provence called les Sources. My daughter went there and loved it. If it was you, you had a web site with photos of your travels.I also have a question for anyone who knows, if I go to Priceline and start bidding and get rejected, rather than wait 72 hours, can I use my daughters computer and bid right away again.

monicapileggi Sep 25th, 2004 12:50 PM

Lyban,

That was me! Glad you liked Les Sources. Philippe is a very nice host.

As for your 72 hours, no, you cannot go to another computer because you have to provide your full name and credit card information. If you go to the bidding for travel, second page of the messages, find mine towards the bottom (right column you'll see MPileggi). There you'll see some advise for me to bid with three options without having to wait the 72 hours. Well, let's make it easier for, here's the link: http://p070.ezboard.com/fpricelinean...cID=1168.topic

Just to let everyone here who were so helpful know that I won a bid with Priceline for 100.a night for 4 stars in mayfair at the Millenium Mayfair for the upcoming weekend of Oct. 1 and 2.
Thanks again....

Congrats Lynn! Glad you got a hotel in London. I am curious though and would like to hear from you about any reply you might get from Sheryl. I too don't understand why she moved your posting of your winning bid.

I stayed at the Millenium in Mayfair last year for a few days. I really liked the location because you could walk to Oxford Street to shop at Selfridge or any of the other 2000 stores! I thought the hotel was a little "worn" but it was still comfortable.

One good thing is that you can use the Heathrow Express which goes directly to Paddington from the airport. The price is very low and the trip is FAST! Once at Paddington you can either take a shared cab to the hotel for a fixed price or walk if it is a nice day (about a mile). The best part about the Heathrow Express is that if you are flying with Air Canada, Austrian Airlines, Singapore Airlines, bmi,Varig Brazilian, LOT, Lufthansa, Thai Airways, or SAS you can check you bags right at the train terminal!
