Which apartment in Amsterdam has the best location
 

Hi all,

My husband and I are thinking about visiting Amsterdam in the middle of August for a week. We prefer apartments. Which of these 3 is better located for us? We are in our 50's, enjoy walking, cocktails and dinner at night and would like to visit AF museum and a couple of other museums, the Heiniken Brewery and maybe do a canal tour. We have never been to Amsterdam before.

The second one is about $500 more, hoping to not have to pay this much.

You pay for the location! I don't think you can do better than Prinsengracht re location.

All three are in good locations. The first two are near the Jordaan and Anne Frankhuis, the third is nearer the Van Gogh and Rijks museums and Vondelpark.

MyriamC, Prinsengracht location does look really nice.

hetismij2, good to know as I'm really interested in the first one if the location is good. The price is right and there are many positive reviews on a couple of different websites.

I don't know Singel canal nor the Jordaan neighbourhood, the location of the first apt. But I've read that it is hip -- a bit edgier than the location of the other apts but a coming area.

The second one looks fab and that Prinsengracht location is great.

The third has the best location of all, IMO.

If you are staying in any of the 3, I suggest you try the Brasserie Vlaming, at 193 Prinsengracht. We ate there 3 weeks ago and loved it.

I was concerned that a place rated #1 among A'dam restaurants on Tripadvisor would be crawling with tourists and a tourist trap to boot. It wasn't. (This was a quiet Sunday evg) Reasonably priced too.

Hi tedgale, thanks for the info. Unfortunately, I just heard back from the third location and the rental is unavailable for my dates. The first and second are available though.

I will put the Brasserie Vlaming on my restaurant list, sounds great!

I recommend their 3-tier mixed antipasto platter for 2. It was almost a meal in itself -- and very good.

the second one. great location. you'll love jordaan, across prinsengracht, haarlemmerstraat (foody paradise) is around the corner, and when you walk into town you have the "9 streets".

I don't know why the first one doesn't provide a location map, but a quick google on the owner's phone number shows it at the bottom end of Marnixstraat betweeen Bloemstraat and Rozengracht. That's on the southern edge of Jordaan, and if memory serves it's a mixed business/residential area. Marnixstraat gets a fair bit of traffic, and there's a tram route passing the front door (others along Rozengracht), but the flat looks as though it's at the back overlooking the canal, so noise wouldn't be much of an issue. The immediate surroundings of the street are a bit workaday, but you wouldn't have to walk far to get to prettier or more interesting parts of Jordaan, or to get transport to the places on your must-see list.

Bear in mind it's four floors up very steep Amsterdam stairs: but then, the second one looks to be at least two floors up.

menachem, thank you for your reply, but we decided to go with the third one based on the price and all the great reviews from previous renters. Plus with the money we're saving we'll be able to a couple of day trips, maybe even go to Belgium.

PatrickLondon, thanks for your reply and the link you posted. Very helpful! I think we'll be happy here, the reviews from a couple of different sites were very positive and the owners have been great!
