Wouldn't the overall flying time be longer going through Korea? My two trips betwen London and Australia were with Malaysia (3 day stopover in KL) and Singapore (free city tour with layovers of 5 hrs or more).

Personally I feel a one night layover is worse than flying straight through - you don't get that much rest, and it just makes the trip last longer.

Hi again Vinyl,

Don't even think about BA, our friend flew London to Perth last week and said it was the worse flight he has had. I find it amazing the Emirates is so expensive - many people from Perth use them to go to the UK as it is the cheapest.

What site are you using to get your prices?

Maudie: I have to fly from sydney, and going from perth (checked the emirates website) is $1900 plus syd to perth flight

Heimdall: its a 19hour stopover, i keep confusing myself and thinking its more...ARgh, Im so confused with all the time zones and everything

I can get a return flight to BKK only for $850 so if there was anyway to get to manchester or london from there, Even Paris or some other place where i can get another connecting flight for cheap that might work...
but i can only find flights within asia from BKK
Ill be finishing in rome & was going to fly back to london for the return flight
argh

Have you stopped in at an STA office to see what they can do? I know there are several in Sydney, and they can help with complicated travel arrangements, sometimes even beating internet prices. You don't have to be a student or under 25 y.o. to use them (I have and I'm neither), but if you are, even better.

Otherwise, there are lots of flights between BKK and London, so keep checking. What I meant about going through Seoul was won't time in the air be longer than going through, say, Bankok or KL? That, plus your 19 hr layover would make for a very long trip.

Do you watch movies? Some people don't. For me, on a long flight like that, I would like the individual seatback monitors.

Frequent Flyer Miles: Do you collect them? You should get quite a few.

Be glad none of your choices are U.S. airlines. They would be charging you $5 for each class of wine and sometimes even headphones.

Well, obviously Thai Airways, but I believe BA flies to that destination as well.

When my daughter was 18 she booked her RTW through STA, and got a pretty good deal, with the student and young persons discount. They also had a good travel insurance policy. I'm not saying it is cheaper than the internet, but at least worth a try. Maybe they are only good for that sort of trip where you stay in different places rather than a point-to-point flight.

Are you posting this question on Lonely Planet? You might get some helpful replies there.
