which activity out of Salzburg???

We will be on a tour that provides us with a choice of two of the following 6 activities while we are staying in Salzburg for 6 days in May:
1. Eagles Nest and Berchtgaden
2. Herrenchiemsee
3. Salt Mines
4. Golf at Eugendorf
5.The Archbishops Castles and Palaces (3)
6. Schloss Orth and Residences of the Habsburgs. (Gmunden)
Which would you choose and why?

The salt mines are quite fun - I've been to them twice and they are definitely appropriate for an excursion from Salzburg! I've also been the Eagles Nest and Berchtesgaden and I was pretty disappointed with it, although the views from the Eagles Nest are fantastic. So unless you have a keen desire to see the Eagles Nest for historical reasons, I might be incined to skip it if one of the other activities appeals to you more.

The palace at Herrenchiemsee is the most elaborately decorated (inside) and the largest of all the Ludwig "castles" and the grounds around the front with the fountains are memorable. The access is by boat 20-30 minute ride from the port at Stock.
This site is a big favorite of the German population and probably won't have as many foreign tourists as you would encounter at Linderhof or at Neuschwanstein. It may very well be more impressive than any of the castles around Salzburg itself.

I second the salt mines. It was fun to pass through to the German border underneath inside a mine. The slides were loads of fun too.

1 & 3 you will love them..

Yes, I too would go for 1 & 3.

Have been to the salt mines in both Berchtesgaden and Hallstatt and liked BG the best, although Hallstatt is a wonderful village to visit. ((b))
