Where's the "Make Sure Not To Forget..." Post??

Read a great post just yesterday about things not to forget for one's trip. Tried to pull it back up by searching the title and even the names of two of the posters. Nothing. Help, please.

Is this the one you're looking for?

See http://www.fodors.com/forums/threads...p;tid=34598057

Not strictly applicable to your question, since you had not posted on the thread you are seeking...

...but if you see a thread that you know you will want to come back to, you can add a post "Flagging for my future reference".

THEN, clicking on your own name WILL retrieve it for certain. Foolproof.

Anything that relies on "searching" can and will fail, especially if it is "new" (which can be defined as < 24 hours, or in some cases, < 24 months!)

Best wishes,

Rex

I think the problem for your search is a couple things. You can't pull a post up in a search on some words in it immediately as soon as it's posted. Fodors has to "archive" or catalog posts so they are searchable, and it isn't immediate. I don't know their current timeframe, but it used to be that it couldn't be searched until about a month later. As for as names, I don't think you can search on posters names unless they appear written in the body of the text (which they usually are not). I don't think the search tool can search on the names in the blue font after Author: at the top of the post. If you want to search on a person's name, you have to find some other post that person made and then click on their name in blue. At least that seems to be my experience, if someone knows otherwise, they might say. If you click on someone's name, even immediate posts will show up, but given the lag in the searchability function by word, even if you can search on a name by other methods, I don't think that would have worked in this case.

I disagree, Christina. Once the indexing is updated, the "screen names" are indexed the same as any other text in the body or in the header.

Moreover, a weird quirk is that even e-mail addresses (which are "there" pre-registration, but no longer visible) are searchable too. I have always used an e-mail address containing "rbmd", and I can retrieve everyone of the 9000+ threads on whih I have posted (except for the most recent ones), by searching "rbmd".
