Where Would You Like to Be Right Now?

If you could right suddenly be transported to anywhere in Europe, on any day, what would it be?

For me it would be Queen's Day in Amsterdam - the liveliest city-wide festive festival i've ever have the chance to happen upon.

Where would you like to materialize right now? And why?

"Where would you like to materialize right now? And why?"

Easy (especially after a hard week at work). Sipping wine at the Buza Bar in Dubrovnik. Relaxation has never met a better place!

Hazel Cottage, Ballyhahill, Ireland.

No Phones, No Internet, No neighbors, No nothing except peace and quiet and "browny-spotty the cow"

In front of Notre Dame in Paris sipping a cheap vin chaud out of a plastic cup. The hub and I are with our dear friends from Edinburgh. It's almost midnight on new year's eve. This would be a repeat of December 31, 2008.

Anywhere in Germany.

Achill Island or anywhere in Co. Donegal south or west of Letterkenny

Strolling along the Seine with my husband, mid August, blackberry gelato in hand, around 10pm while the Paris Plage was going on. Beautiful piano music wafting through the air. Couples drinking wine on the 'beach'. This would be a repeat of August 19 last year. Wahhh, I want to go back NOW. :((

Having an wood oven pizza and sipping wine on the quay in St Jean Cap Ferrat. Such a wonderful memory, I want to relive it tonight!

London, walking along the south side of the river, by Jubilee Gardens, enjoying the magnificent view across the water, which I will be in a few weeks. Can hardly wait. Sometimes thinking about my upcoming trips is the only thing that keeps me sane.

TPAYT Jul 30th, 2010 08:14 PM

I'm going with the Paris theme.

On the bridge to St. Louis en Ile with "I Wish You Love" wafting over the water played by Tim the saxophone player form London.

Now that I mention it, what happened to Tim? He was there for many years, then in 2009 we couldn't find him.

But I have to add choice #2-----having dinner in the courtyard outside in Chinon at Au Chapeau Rouge----absolutely fantastic!

Choice #3----watching the fireworks display at the Cyrano de Bergerac(Sp?) show over the pond at Versailles---stunning!

SeaUrchin--you mentioned Cap Ferrat---WOW another wonderful memory!

MelJ---you mentioned Notre Dame----well how about in front of Notre Dame when the Pope was there with tens of thousands of people holding candles and singing Ave Maria.

Then it's my favorite dinner of all time at "Al Veluu" in the hills overlooking Lake Como.

How can you choose just one?

This Sept. it's Ireland----maybe jaja's Achill Island

The list goes on----how can you choose? I feel very fortunate to have many memories in Europe.

Hey Cynthia I totally agree with you. Upcoming trips are really what keeps me sane.

Walking with my hubby along the trail from Guarda to Zouz in the Engadine, Switzerland. Stunningly brilliant blue sky, snow capped mountains, green fields full of wild flowers and butterflies, cows with big brass bells and not another soul in sight. SIGH!

TPAYT: you cheated (but I sympathize!)

A fall morning in the gardens of Villandry where the mist hung over everything and I was the only soul around. They annually rotate the gardens based on authentic plans...while I've seen many photos in guidebooks, online, etc. I've never seen as beautiful as that year's!

This moment I am happy to be home, but I would be happy to go away for a bit while someone else cleaned it.

If I have to choose somewhere in Europe right now, though, I would be at the Galleria Doria Pamphilij, soon to be followed by a delicious Roman lunch. OK, that is just one of many, many suggestions I would enjoy following right now.

Rome with my husband enjoying a meal at Nino. Cinque Terre would be nice too, I would love to have the seafood risotto at Miky's.

Anywhere but here.

At La Scuderia restaurant in Asciano in Tuscany. A beautiful, romantic, Merchant Ivory type place that we chanced upon in desperation at the end of a horrendous day which started with DH putting regular gas in a diesel rental car.

Sassafrass Jul 31st, 2010 04:55 AM

With DH and friends, on the terrace of the Hotel Minerva, on the cliffs above Sorrento, Italy, looking out over the bay of Naples with Vesuvius in the distance.
