Where would you go with 8- 9 days to drive around southern Norway?

Jump to last reply

We have a Nat Geo trip in Norway in mid July. It starts in Oslo and ends up in Bergen. This is our trip/itinerary

http://www.nationalgeographicexpeditions.com/expeditions/oslobergen-norway-train-tour/detail

We plan on picking up a rental car in Bergen and winding our way through the countryside/villages/fjords eventually ending up in Oslo 8-9 days later.

We have read that driving in Norway is easy, and of course one has more time to enjoy, photograph and experience the country. The thought of driving above the Fjords sounds wonderful.

In another thread dyoll suggested
I would then drive the Hardangerfjord route from Bergen via Rosendal, staying at Baroniet Rosendal - http://baroniet.no/en/ Then E134 to Oslo with a side trip to Dalen staying at - http://www.dalenhotel.no/en/

But that thread was when I thought we would just be driving from Bergen to Oslo for 2-3 days. Now it looks like we may have 8-9 days.

We will have time in Oslo and Bergen so they do not need to be included, except that we will start from Bergen and end in Oslo.

Is 8-9 days too much? I had considered Denmark, but DH really wantrs to just do Norway, and I must admit, it looks like there is a lot to experience.

Are there certain places to "base" for a few days with day trips/easy walks/hikes in the area? Small towns, villages?

I have 2 guide books to start reading, but would love some suggestions from people who have visited Norway.
