Where would you eat?
 

My husband and I are going to be in Ireland this May.
1 night Blarney
1 night Bantry
3 nights Kenmare
2 nights Dingle
And
3 nights Ennis
Where would you eat if you had a night in one of these places? Is there someplace that you would stop because they have the best cheese, scones, etc? Thanks for your help.

Muskerry Arms, Blarney has the best apple pie. I have gone there twice for it.

I have never gone wrong with seafood chowder anywhere in Ireland. I love Guinness stew, salmon is so fresh there and prawns and oysters. Brown bread is great with a cheese platter.

Ennis.. Brogans is our 1st choice, Poets corner in the Old Ground the 2nd but there are a number of good options from Tea and Scones in the Rowan Tree Hostel to a full meal in the Old Ground or preferably Temple Gate Legends. Cloisters is a mid range option Carrie’s Cakes or O'Connors craft bakery coffee shop are worth a look.

I have never eaten in any of those places but Blarney and I had the worst roast beef there. I ordered it because it had yorkshire pudding with it. It was during an outbreak of mad cow and we laughed so hard because we could not cut it. we wondered where they got the poor cow from. We had not ordered any beef on the trip till this. We flew into Dublin and had to walk through a disinfecting solution on our shoes. The Yorkshire pudding was good. Anyhow, have eaten in a lot of other places and stick to seafood mostly now except for the Guinness stew.

Flpab- glad you did not get mad cow. :). Padraig- thanks for the info on Dingle. Both of the restaurants look good.

When you're in Dingle, stay at the Pax House. Read about it on Trip Advisor to see why it is worth every penny you will spend. The breakfast there is by far the most incredible breakfast I had, anywhere in Ireland. It's worth staying there just for the breakfasts, which are unlike any breakfast you will find anywhere else.

When in Dingle take ur Bank manager! Talk to the locals (if you can find one)and ask where they recommend to eat.. (Same is true of any place)

Hopefully you have accommodation sorted out. If not be careful of TA top rated places, some charge what they want on the strength of that.

I have made the mistake of recommending a certain Guest House in a certain place once too often, now I can't get availability and wouldn't pay the new prices even if I could..(just a word to the wise)

Thanks Tony. We are staying at a B&B that someone on Fodor's had recommended. Not the highest rated one on TA but it looked nice. Talking to the locals about where they like to eat is always a good idea-hopefully we can find one. :).

One local to whom you might talk is your B&B host. They will often be a bit biased and recommend their friends, so take that possibility into account. On the other hand, if you go to a place and say "Mary from Seaview House suggested I come here" you can benefit from a little extra attention - you are just a tiny bit networked.

The places I recommended are a bit pricey - that's why I gave you the links, so that you could see the deal for yourself. They are also good, which is why I suggested them.

Padraig- looked at the websites for both restaurants and will check them out when we are in Dingle. We will also check with our hosts. Thanks for the advice. :)
