Where to stop between Lucca and Orvieto
 

I think this is my last question! As always the fodors community has been awesome in helping plan out trip!

We will be leaving Lucca to spend 3 nights just north of Orvieto (10 km) We won't be in a hurry and would like to find a small to medium town or area to explore and have lunch before we get to the farmhouse. We have 3 girls ages 7,9 and 13 but it doesn't have to have "kid" activities.

We have been to Pienza, montepluciano and Montalcino. We have a car.

Any thoughts? I've looked at the map so many times but nothing is sticking out.

I forgot to mention somewhere not too far from the North of Orvieto...maybe less than an hour or an hour away :)

A tiny spa town with hstory back to Charlamagne.

There are a couple of decent places to eat. Drive via the Siena Superstrada and then SS2 to San Quirico and just south to BV. Take SS2 south as you leave and approach Orvieto from the west---quite a view of the town and the Duomo.

More than an hour north of Orvieto but very interesting: Volterra and/or Monteriggioni.

If you'd rather drive through Chianti: Castellina and/or Radda.

Driving to Bagno Vignoni is 2.5 hours from Lucca and then you are about 90 minutes from Orvieto.

I would aim for Loro Ciuffenna -- 90 minutes from Lucca and 90 minutes from there to Orvieto
