Where to stop between assisi and siena

I am driving from Assisi to Siena and would like recommendations for good villages to stop or good scenic roads to travel. I don't mind going out of the way. I would like to leave Assisi around 10am and get to Siena around 3pm.

Take the road on the west side of the lake and meander over to Montepulciano.
Then to Pienza, and catch S-2 at San Quirico and approach Siena from the south. Have lunch opposite the San Biagio church at La Grotta. Have fun !

That sounds like a good plan. I have heard pienza is nice. I have to look more at Montepulciano...that is where the church San Biagio is, right?Would you recommend going through montalcino also...or I probably won't have time.

If you go to Montepuliciano, I would say lunch at La Chuisa. It's close by
http://www.ristorantelachiusa.it/it/it-home.htm

Michilan one star.

Montalcino is a bit off the route. If you have time do the Abbey at Mt. Oliveto Maggiore as you head north from San Quirico on S-2. Yes, San Biagio is just barely west of Montepulciano--La Gotta is across the street. Good luck !
