Vero29 - To say bonjour to Notre Dame and bonsoir in the evening has been a great experience. I loved being awaken by the bells of the church. The place is so convenient that it does not take long to be on rue de Buci which we found ourselves almost everyday. Try the "tentation du mois" at Cacao et Chocolat (rue de Buci). We were lucky enough to have the January and a few days later, the February flavors! My daughters loved them both upon our return to SF.

Kyliesw - sorry to veer from your topic. You will be happy on rue de Buci. It is my preferred neighborhood in Paris but also glad that we were able to enjoy being on rue Galande with the magnificent view of Notre Dame!
You are so close to lots of my favorite stops - Gerard Mulot and Pierre Marcolini on rue de Seine, Patrick Roger on 104 bd Saint Germain, Cacao et Chocolat on your street, Laduree and my all time favorite Pierre Herme on rue Bonaparte. A little further on on 4 rue d'Assas is another small chocolate boutique, Jean-Charles Rochoux.

Apologies for tacking on but I have enjoyed this thread re rue de Buci activities. Looking to stay in August on rue St Jacques near the river (triple room, meets budget). Will that area be convenient enough for exploring rue de Buci? Thanks.

texasjo - you can walk easily from rue Saint Jacques to rue de Buci. I always take rue Saint Andre des Arts after crossing boulevard Saint Michel. This is an interesting walk with lots of little shops, a pub or two, some little cafes including Café Malongo which I discovered several years ago.
I have never gone back to Paris in August but I know there is the Paris Plage (beach) along the Seine. We are spring or fall and an occasional winter (for my birthday celebration) travellers. Amusez-vous bien a Paris au mois d'aout!

rue de Buci has changed considerably over the last couple years. When we returned in December 2010, we were hoping to find a couple of patisseries and markets that were there in 2008, and most of the neighborhood has really transformed and is much more upscale with boutiques than it had been. We were disappointed that it lost some of its less commercial feel.
