Where to stay overnight between Genoa and Geneva

Hi,
I'm new to Fodor's and would like some advice on where to have a one night stopover between Genoa and Geneva. We are driving to Genoa for Easter weekend and will return to Geneva on the Tuesday. I know the roads will be very busy on Easter Monday so we would like to drive a little then stop off somewhere interesting overnight and finish our journey on Tuesday.
I've looked at Aosta. Would that be a good place to visit?
Any suggestions would be very welcome.
Thanks,
Angela

Hi Angela Aosta is nice have done that route years past but road
is better via Milan and Simplon Pass viamichelin.com I would go
that way. Our fav places to stay on the way Stresa/Isola Bella
Hotel Grand Dino or Regina Palace. Up in Switzerland Interlaken
Victoria Jungfrau or Hotel Interlaken based on budget. Booking.com good booking info. Happy Travels!

Thank you for this. We've never gone via Simplon pass. Do you mean it is a more scenic route or better driving conditions?
We've actually stayed in Stresa a couple of years back and visited Isola Bella and it is beautiful. So that would also be a possibility.
Thanks again
Angela

Aosta is simply wonderful, and sort of perfect for an overnight visit because you can see the major attractions around town easily in a day. In addition to the fabulous Roman sights of antiquity, be sure to visit the cloister of S. Orso and the excavations that reveal the old streets of Rome that are below today's street level.

I visited in July, however, and can't advise about spring weather. Since it is such a popular ski area, I would think the major highway through the Aosta valley -- which is a fine 8-lane flat highway -- is kept absolutely clear at all times, and of course the tunnel is open year round. (If the skies are clear, Mt. Blanc is a tremendous sight from the road). But I only stayed on the Italian side, and don't know what it is like to drive through the tunnel or what's on the other side of the border.
