Where to stay on Left Bank in Paris?
 

Can anyone recommend an area on the left bank in Paris that has easy access to the sights, the Metro and lots of cafes and restaurants? A safe area for my daughter and I to walk around day and night. Thank you

We like the Hotel de Varenne on rue de Bourgogne in the 7th. An easy walk to the river and over to the Louvre, Place de la Concorde etc.
Lots of restaurants in the area. Perfectly safe. Metro stop nearby, although we mostly walked everywhere except for going to Versailles and Sacre Couer.

The Rodin museum is up the street and around the corner. There is a great little grocery store just down the street where you can get snacks or wine, beer etc for the little fridge in your room.
There is also a wonderful bakery right next door and a produce store.

St. Germain de Pres (the 6th) is a short walk away too for lots of shopping, more restaurants etc.

It really depends what you mean by easy access to the sights. Any place in Paris near a metro stop has that by the terms that it is easy to get there, but if you really mean you can walk to them, that's an entirely different story. That would generally be arrondisements 1-6 to walk to the Louvre, Notre Dame, etc. Any place will be safe in those.

Almost any part of Paris has cafes and restaurants, given it is a huge metropolitan area. Even people living on the edges in neighborhoods have cafes and restaurants, but that doesn't mean it would be convenient for you. There are few areas of Paris that wouldn't be convenient for that, but would be more the outer parts of some arrondisements on the outer circle.

If you want to make it easy, pick a hotel in arrondisements 4-6.

No use giving recommendations then you telling us the hotel costs too much.

Anywhere off of Blvd. St. Germain in the 5 or 6 will be safe and near cafes, Metro.

Central Paris is very safe. I walk around alone in the late evening. Paris is a cafe society city so you'll find cafes everywhere you look; multiple cafes on many blocks.

You don't say what sights you'll be visiting so it's difficult to recommend a particular area close to your sightseeing list but I like staying in St-Germain-des-Pres or the Latin Quarter.

Get a couple of guide books and start reading them for more information on Paris.

There are thousands of hotels in the Left Bank area. Give us a nightly budget for accommodations in euros and we can begin to narrow it down for you. There are no safety issues anywhere as long as one is reasonably careful to guard one's possessions and not walk around glued to a digital device or looking clueless.

Me too has walked many many times around the Left Bank - all of it is safe - but do take the precautions St. Cirq talks about - pickpockets are in every tourist city in Europe because naive tourists may be good easy targets.

The Left Bank is only about 30% of the city. It is a shame to restrict yourself so much.

The area around the Odeon metro stop is a favorite for us- lots of cafes, restaurants and small hotels. Easy metro and bus connections right there and quite close to many favorite sites. We do need to know your budget to give much advice.

There are still a lot of places to recommend. And as was said, central Paris (1-8) is very safe. so that is an answer for you.
but you want close to the Metro, so recommending individual hotels could be VERY helpful to you--and especially if we knew your preferred budget.
We love the Hotel Muguet in the 7th, near rue cler, two metros and a lot of good restaurants. Not terribly lively, which can be a good thing also.

All of Paris is within 500 M of a metro stop.

Almost all of the city is full of life of some vibe.

Have you looked up Paris under "Destinations"?


In Paris, we always stay at the Hotel Bonaparte, 61 Rue Bonaparte in the 6th. From 139E dbl + bkfst. It is just around the corner from Place St. Sulpice, near 3 metro stops and 4 bus routes. Has AC and an elevator.

The staff speaks English well, and is very helpful. The front desk is staffed 24/7
