Where to stay near Pont du Gard
We're traveling from the Luberon to Toulouse and want to spend a day at Pont du Gard, touring, hiking, swimming, the works. We would optimally like to stay closer than Nimes or Avignon, but in a 3* or better hotel.
Does anyone know of anything? Thanks. |
What's your budget in Euros?

I suggest Uzès, less than half as far from the Pont du Gard as Avignon. I had an apartment for the week I was there but it shouldn't be difficult to locate a hotel. I liked Uzès very much, for the market days and for the quiet days in between.

Thanks.
Would like to keep cost at 200Euro per night, but can go over easily. |
I also suggest that you stay in Uzès.

I also recommend Uzes, specifically Mas Laurent.
http://www.maslaurent.com/en/ Deborah and Tim, from Australia, are fantastic hosts. "Mas Laurent is a 17th Century farmhouse which has offered bed and breakfast accommodation over many years for visitors to the Pays de l’Uzège. It is situated about 2kms from the Provençal town of Uzès, a town having its origins in the Roman occupation of the south of France and which is popular for its history, its Saturday markets and its proximity to the Pont du Gard. Mas Laurent can be your introduction to the Uzège region and its ‘terroirs’ which produce truffles, olives, goats’ cheese, wine and fruit… All of which you can enjoy with us. Experience all the delights of the Provence and its exploration during your stay at Mas Laurent." |
The Uzès tourist office website will list most if not all of the accommodation in town: http://uk.uzes-tourisme.com/
Keep in mid that the star rating system of hotels in France has to do with amenities offered, not level of luxury. So it's possible to find a 2 star hotel that is more luxurious than a 3 star hotel. |
Uzès, hands down. One of my favourite places in France.

Remoulins is the closest proper town but I agree Uzes is so so exceptional - reeks so much of being an old historic town not much farther - Remoulins may have cheaper hotels intended for folks just visiting the Pont du Gard.
