Where to stay near Dublin to see pubs/sights not too touristy!
We will be in Dublin for only 2 days. We want to eat, drink and be merry but not at the tourist traps. I've seen my share of Hard Rock Cafes, etc. I have had advice to stay in Howth, Malahide, Wexford.. Any tips would be so appreciated. We have never been to Ireland at all!

We stayed a B&B called O'Neill's Victorian Pub - there are two O'Neill's so be careful. It's on the noisy side, being above a pub and near a train, but bring earplugs, and it's worth it. High Victorian ceilings, big rooms, convenient as it's right near Trinity College, a couple blocks from O'Connell Street. Reasonably priced, which is very important for Dublin. Three brothers run it, we enjoyed our stay. Pub food is decent, too

We based ourselves in Malahide when we visited Dublin and the surrounding area. It is a nice coastal town with easy train service (DART) to Dublin. Malahide Castle is there and while we did not tour the castle, we did have a pleasant walk around the extensive grounds (no charge for that). There are a number of B&B's in Malahide. (Ours was in a quiet location about a 10 minute walk from town.)

Dublin is quite an attractive town with some interesting architecture and a bunch of sights. As long as you don;t stay in Temple Bar (mobbed with trendy hotels and pubs) I would stay downtown for easier access to sights. (The area you want to see is small and almost all walkable.)
