Where to stay in Villefranche Sur Mer?
 

We are contemplating staying a few days in Cote D'Azur next July. Given our preference for quieter places, Villefranche looks like a great place for our likes. Ran across a little hotel called Hotel Patricia on the outskirts of the village. Listed as a one star hotel with a 5 star location, the place actually looks decent on the web, but the low price (especially for this area) worries me a bit. Has anyone stayed there, or what other reasonably priced places yould you recommend. Hotel Welcome is probably out of our price range. Any help will be appreciated.

I have not stayed at this hotel, but it has quite a few good reviews (and a few not so good) on trip advisor. You will also find a list of other hotels in Villefranche-sur- mer but they are definitely more expensive than the Hotel Patricia. Do a search here and see if anyone mentions it.

It is located about 15 minutes or so from the village of Villefranche-sur-mer (on the other side of the bay near Cap Ferrat) but it is a pleasant walk. It definitely is located near where the trains pass by.

If you prefer "quieter places", Hotel Patricia is not for you. I did not give it a good review on Fodor's in a previous post because it really disappointed me, but staying strictly with the "quiet" issue, our room, overlooking the beautiful Med, also had a commuter train running by it every fifteen minutes or so. I wouldn't stay there again.....but we did love Villefranche.

I stayed at this hotel last April. I chose it based on good reviews and the price. They have a lot of guests, mostly repeats. I did not like the hotel. I did not like the location. I did not like the room. Yes, the train runs by all the time. The owner was very pleasant. Since they don't charge you until you check out, I did not have any problem cutting short my stay. I went to hotel La Flore. Take a look at hotel Darse, which is near by. It has good reviews.

The Versailles is mentioned a lot. Nice views there also. Not sure if the price is right for you but take a look. It is listed in the 10 most popular Villefranche-sur-mer hotels on Trip Advisor.

Not sure if this qualifies as 'quiet', but we loved Hotel Welcome - amazing views - all of the rooms have balconies, which I personally find extremely relaxing. Gives you an opporutnity to 'watch from a distance' and not be in the middle of it. We loved the evening views of the boats in the harbor (I actually took many night exposure photo shots there) after a dinner and sitting and just chilling.

We would stay there again without reservation!

We stayed at Hotel Darse a few years ago and loved it. The price was very reasonable and the view of the harbor from our balcony was unforgettable. Villefranche-sur-Mer is wonderful -quiet and truly charming.

Don't miss Chapelle Saint-Pierre. We also had a great day trip to Eze. We took a bus from the train station up to Eze but then hiked back down for incredible views.

My husband and I stayed at Hotel Versailles four years ago. We did not like the original room given to us, so we upgraded for an extra $10.00 per night. The room was simple but lovely and had a fantastic view with a balcony. I have no idea what the cost is at this point in time. We absolutely loved Villefranche! Quite chaming. Have a great time.

We also stayed at Hotel de la Darse

Be aware that parking is limited and public and may be a problem in July.

The Versailles has a nice pool, vs the dinky one next door at the Flore. Otherwise the Flore is OK and has a very good restaurant. However, the beautiful harbor views from some of their rooms are obscured by a big palm tree.

Thanks to all for the input. Have also considered staying in the hills bwhind the coast. Has anyone stayed in Tourettes sur Loup. If so, would that village make a good base, and if so, recommendations about where to stay would be in order. The same could be said for Biot or Le Colle sur Loup.

We once stayed in Tourettes sur Loup and didn't find it very convenient as traffic between there and the coast is very heavy. That was in late May so I assume it's very bad in July.

The hotel Patricia is a great place to stay. It's not noisy as some people say. I've stayed there 3 times, in a different room every time, and I loved it every time! I really recommend this hotel. It's been recently renovated, it's extremely clean, and not expensive! The location is superb. I stayed at the Darse once because the Patricia was booked out, and I really didn't like it. It was noisy and my room was dirty and not cozy at all! And it was more expensive!

Someone knowing I was a Jean cocteau fan rcommended his favorite hotel.

I am wondering about Villefranche also, I booked a sea view room in the Hotel Provencal for September, Does anyone have any comments on this hotel? It was 60euros less a night than the Hotel Welcome, the pictures and reviews seem alright. It is just so hard to tell without actually being there.

Here's another recommendation for the Hotel Welcome and I'd splurge to stay there. It has the best location, parking available, and was very quiet despite being so conveniently located. Try calling the hotel directly to see if you can get a better price.

Nice to hear that the Hotel Welcome gets such positive reviews. We will be there for 4 nights in March-can't wait!!! Any suggestions for restaurants in the area? I promise a trip report when we return.

This is really getting difficult to resist the Hotel Welcome. Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Provencal? I can't wait to hear your trip report AGM_Cape_Cod.

To happy, I stayed at Provençal for 2 nights many, many moons ago. It was okay. I chose it because of the price. I needed a place to stay after moving out of the school apartment at the end of the language course. How many nights will you be there?

I'll be there just 2 nights.
