Where to stay in Venice for 1st time?
We will be visiting Venice for the first time. Trying to decide where to stay.
The Aqua Palace in Castello, near Grand Canal and Ponte di Rialto Ca 'Pisani in Dorsoduro or AD Place in San Marco |
My first visit to Venice I stayed at the Hotel Giorgione in Castello and the location was good. Not far from Rialto, a block off a main street which made finding my way around easy but uncrowded and quiet. Not far to walk to San Marco, quite central actually.

Correction, the Giorgione is in Cannareggio, not Castello.

Keeping in mind that almost anywhere in Venice is OK:
Castello is a bit out of the way, but I think the hotel you're staying at is at the west end, near central Venice, so it looks OK. The Dorsoduro is on the other side of the Grand Canal, away from the San Marco area. The area has a neighborhood feel to it. I like it but it's not centrally located. I'm assuming the Ponte de Rialto is near the Rialto Bridge. If so, that's probably the most centrally located. I'd probably make my choice based on price and suitability of rooms, etc. I don't think you can go wrong, as far as location goes, with any of the three areas. |
Our favorite is Pensione La Calcina in Dorsoduro. Still gets high marks from most. No elevator, but stairs are easy to manage.

My vote goes to Ca' Pisani. A very nice hotel and IMO, a wonderful area and central location.

Thanks to ALL for the advice. It looks like I can't go wrong!

Another vote for Dorsoduro. I'd avoid San Marco. It gets very crowded during the day.
