We are 2 couples looking for something around the $200-$250 Australian dollar per night if possible

That equates to about 115-145 Euros at current exchange rates. Do you mean this price per room, or for all of you together?

We stayed at the Hotal Ai do Mori. It is very central - some may say too central. I think that you'd be OK with AUD 200 per night per room. Very easy to find, which helps.

We really enjoyed out stay at Hotel Campiello. It is centrally located, but on a side street, so quiet.

ENJOY.

If you are looking for a B&B we had a great experience at Corte 1321.

I loved the Al Teatro B&B in San Marco.

The Amber room has a lovely balcony.

I am on a tighter budget for my upcoming trip in March, so, I have booked a room at Hotel ai do Mori, literally a few steps from Piazza San Marco!

I stayed at Al Ponte Mocenigo last April and highly recommend it. It is beautiful and on a quiet canal, just a few steps from a vaparetto stop. The owners and staff were above and beyond in helping us with local restaurants and connections to sites we wanted to visit. The breakfast was very nice in a pleasant section of the hotel. Our room was overlooking the canal, which I would recommend. Although I don't have the website handy, you can google it easily. Prices were within your range when we went. It's actually worth a few dollars more!

I'm with marigross. We also stayed at Corte 1321 B&B; rooms are large and comfortable. Owned by American mother/daughter. Fabulous location, wonderful place. We loved it!

We also stayed at Al Ponte Mocenigo and loved it. peanutbutter is quite right - it was about a 30 second walk to a vaporetto stop. We had breakfast in the courtyard which was a very pretty way to start the day. We also found the staff very helpful and would return happily. Our room wasn't overlooking the canal but I didn't care. It was a very peaceful place to stay. We are also Aussies and we thought this hotel was very good value for money.
