Where to Stay in Venice??
We're flying into Milan and then taking a train to Venice. Can you recommend a reasonably-priced hotel that will be close to the train station and easy to find? Also, how close is the train station to, say, Marks Square?
|
I flew into Venice and took the train out to Florence. Venice is not big (stunningly beautiful but small) and the only way to get around is the water taxi system do yourself a favor and get a map of the water taxi stops. You would arrive by train and take what would be a short water Taxi ride (15 minutes) and stay in St Marks Square. If you are staying a couple of nights you might consider doing what we did and rent an apartment.

How many euro per night is reasonable to you?
|
I had always assumed that apartment rentals would have a minimum of at least a week's rental. Can you really rent an apartment for a few nights?

Less than 150 euro/night |
You better tell us WHEN you are going too. Depending on that, hotel rates can change dramatically in Venice. In low seasons, e.g., €150 can get you a very nice 4 star hotel.

Maybe some help here.....
Just off Piazza San Marco at Calle dei Fabbri 4680 stands the Palace Bonvecchiati (6) (00 39 041 296 3111; www.llhotels.com), a sleek boutique hotel that opened in 2004. Doubles from €190 (£100) including breakfast. As well as 70 contemporary-chic bedrooms with black marble bathrooms, the hotel offers a "wellness" centre with Jacuzzi, sauna and steam room. Further south, in the Dorsoduro district, an excellent budget option is Pensione La Calcina (7) on Fondamenta Zattere ai Gesuati (00 39 041 520 6466; www.lacalcina.com); doubles from €99 (£70). It was at this delightfully old-fashioned 29-room inn that John Ruskin wrote at least part of The Stones of Venice. Post again or e'mail if you would like further info. |
