Where to stay in Uzes with a car
We're traveling to Uzes from Dijon by car and will be staying a Friday night next May before leaving on Saturday to a rental in Goult. We'd like to visit the Uzes market on Saturday morning and the Pont du Gard in the afternoon before heading to the Luberon. Our main question is where should we stay that has parking and good access for our car? We're a little worried about leaving the day of the market and want to make sure that we aren't trapped by staying too close into the centre. All recommendations helpful!! Thanks.

I would probably stay at Hostellerie Provencale for 1 night. It is "in town", but on the "other" side of the ring road around town - so you won't get pinned in by the market. We've never stayed there - but we've spent 2 weeks in a Gite just outside of Uzes. The hotel is very close to the market which centers in the Place aux Herbes.
Make sure that you explore Uzes thoroughly on Friday. The Saturday market seriously interferes with your enjoyment of the town itself - one of our favorites in Provence. http://www.hostellerieprovencale.com/index_gb.html Stu Dudley |
Thank you, Stu. Your travel advice for France is invaluable. We plan on dining at Stephane Derbord in Dijon. Looking forward to Uzes, also.

A _wonderful_ place to stay on the edge of town (you can walk to everything):
Hôtel du Général d'Entraigues Place de l'Evêché 30700 Uzès Phone: 011 33 4 66 22 32 68 http://www.hoteldentraigues.com/ Request a room with a terrace with a view of the cathedral. We paid 100 euro in May 2005. From their Web site, it appears the rate may now be somewhat higher (135-180 euro, but euro is less now). The setting was magical, especially at night; perhaps our favorite stay over a two week trip. If you'd like some pictures, e-mail me at pconte(at)picante-soft.com -- Paul |
Great! Thank you for another choice of hotel. We'll look at both of them.

I did considerable research several months ago on places to stay in Uzès. The Hostellerie Provancale was my second choice, and I would certainly recommend it. I ended up choosing La Maison de la Bourgade. Their website is www.lamaisondelabourgade.com It is in French but easily understood.
