Where to Stay In Tuscany

We will be travelling to Italy in late December this year. It is our intent to stay in Rome for 5 nights, Tuscany/Umbria for 2 nights and then on to Florence for New Year's Eve and Venice for 4 days.

I am overwhelmed by which hill town to pick to spend 1 or 2 nights. We will be driving from Rome to Florence so there is a lot of flexibility. Should we stay in 2 different hill towns? or stay in one and day trip? Our budget for hotels is in the $200 - $300 euro range for 3 of us.

Any help provided would be much appreciated.

Its all great. Hard to go wrong. I guess I would do one, so as not to move.

Great values in Siena but you might just want to base in Florence to keep it all simpler.
