Where to stay in Tuscany?
Traveling from Switzerland to Tuscany for four nights. Would like to stay in a quaint village/town that would make a good base for day trips to other small towns in the region and also maybe Florence, and Vence. Bese Needs to be close to a train station.
Please advise. Thanks,

I'd try www.agriturismo or www.nomorehotels. Or ask this site to search for you by requesting: "Tuscany rentals" etc. Ciao.

We just returned from spending 5 nights in Tuscany in a VERY quaint town -- Montecarlo -- that is extremely well centrally located for day trips. It is half an hour from Lucca, an hour from the Chianti region, an hour from Sienna, half an hour from Pisa and the beach, and a 55-minute train ride from Florence. We stayed at a B&B which was MUCH more like a villa called Casa Satti. WE LOVED THIS PLACE!! Here's the info on it:

Casa Satti Bed & Breakfast
Via Roma 31,55015
Montecarlo–Lucca, Italy
011-39-0583-22347
Fax: 011-39-0583-22007
Contact: Bianca Satti Tori
Email: [email protected] or [email protected]
Website: www.casasatti.com

Mike: I believe there IS a train station in Montecarlo but the trains are sporadic. We did have a car but drove to a town about 10 miles away to take the train to Florence. I also believe there is bus transportation there. We paid $165/night for 3 people. We had TONS of room that included one bedroom with a double bed, another bedroom with two single beds and a third bedroom with a single bed. The bathroom was HUGE and there was a long hallway (that connected all the rooms) which really was more of a type of living room (it had tables and chairs and seating benches). One wall of this hall/living room was entirely made up of windows from which you could see the Tuscan hills for miles. I believe there is only one other "room" in the B&B that is used for two people. I did NOT see that room but believe it must not look out over the hills but rather the city. Breakfast was included. To us, it was a BARGAIN! If you can't get a room there, you might also try a place just outside of town call La Nina. I don't have address info on it but we had dinner there and it looked like a great place to stay. If you email Bianca at Casa Satti she could give you the La Nina information if she is booked up. Good luck!

Thanks for the info Laura,
I have emailed Bianca and she has a room available for three of the 5 nights, she was looking into another place for us to stay for the two nights, maybe LaNina. She says she does not accept credit cards, did you send her deposit money via mail?
Intersting email suffix you have...
