Where to stay in the Black Fores Areat
We will be in Germany September 2012 and want to stay in southern Germany. Any recommendations as to where to stay in the Black Forest that is more or less centrally located to day trips?
Thanks.
Thanks.

The area around Freudenstadt is fairly centrally located and accessible along the Schwazwald Taeler Tstrasse (Black Forest Valley Road). This valley road coversthe prettiest part of the BF. Be sure to visit the Freilicht Museum (open air museum) Vogts Bauernhof. It is a good introdution to Black Forest culture and architecture.

We have stayed in Staufen which is close to Freiburg. It is also near the town of Munstertal which looks great but we didn't have time to get there.
We have also stayed in Gengenbach. From Gengenbach, we drove to Freudenstadt and then drove the BF High Road (Schwarzwald Hohenstrasse). Both towns are charming.

Stayed in a small town (cannot remember the name) about 5 miles form Freiburg in a very charming small family hotel. Very central and easy to travel and Freiburg has a a number of restauarants for dinner. Assume you will have a car - the area really isn;t doable without one,

Jessica,
If you will depend on public transportation in the Black Forest, then I would recommend that you stay in one of the small towns that give you the KONUS card, which allows you and any companions to travel free on any public transportation in the Black Forest. Larger cities, such as Freiburg, do not offer the KONUS card. If you are interested in this, I would suggest you consider Denzlingen, just north of Freiburg. It's right on the main train line and a 10-min. trip to Freiburg, where you can connect to other Black Forest destinations.
