Lynn: There's nothing wrong with the Hotel Selvès, but here's what John G said he was looking for: <<Im thinking of an inn that is charming, with beveled-glass windows and covered with ivy or bougainvillea.>>

No match there, that's all.

Thanks, Lynn, but I do want a hotel like I mentioned to St. Cirq. Since this is going to be a relaxing vacation, and not one were Im running around looking at sites, museums, art, etc., I want a beautiful hotel where I can be comfortable just nesting.

In researching our trip to the Dordogne this summer, I came across the Manoir d'Hautegente in Coly (north of Sarlat). It looks very charming and may fit the bill. Check out the website -
It has gotten some good feedback from other people on Fodor.

Karen, this is so eerie because last night I went to Barnes & Noble and found a book on French country inns and I saw that very same hotel you recommend!!!! It looked very pretty, but when I looked on a map to see where it is located, it seemed a little far from Sarlat. I want to be able to at least be close to Sarlat to walk or ride a bike there.

Maybe St. Cirq can come to my rescue again?

The Manoir d'Hautegente is indeed lovely, but it is not that close to Sarlat, certainly not close enough to walk, and probably too far (25km) to bicycle home with all those bottles of Pécharmant and heavy tins of foie gras in the basket. I think you'd be better off at the Meysset or in Vitrac.

I'm heading back to the Dordogne Tuesday and will see if I come up with any other ideas, or if any new inns or B&Bs have opened up in the area.

hello all:
sorry for missing the mention of bevelled glass windows and ivy and bougainvillea coverings.....I read in the initial question about "a nice hotel or guesthouse "in" Sarlat. I believed my recommendation to be "a match" .
