Did not want to bring your other thread back to the top, but did see your note of thanks, and you are welcome. Looks like your lodging is all picked out. I hope your trip gives you memories of a life time. Do come back with a trip report. I would like to know how things go.

We (fit couple in our 50's) stayed close to Trevi Fountain and walked to most places (used underground to get to Vatican) we stayed at Piazza Accademia di San Luca, Rome. Great Hotel, with many great restaurants close. This was my 3rd trip to Rome and having central location made this trip the best by far.

Hi Nightfawl!

My husband and I are spending 3 nights in Rome and 2 nights in Florence on the tail end of our Mediterranean Cruise. We will be returning from our cruise on the 8th of Oct., spending the 8th, 9th and 10th in Rome and the 11th and 12th in Florence. Would you mind sharing the location of the airbnbs that you are staying in? We have used airbnb in the States, but this is my first time in Europe and I like the idea of staying in an apartment. I hope you have a wonderful vacation!

Nightfawl, this Monti neighborhood in ancient times was known as Subura, it was where Julius Caesar was born and raised. They had the Royal Name but not the money and it was a very rough slum.

We stayed at a lovely apartment on Via Guilia, in a quiet area near Campo DI Fiori. We found it convenient to walk almost everywhere and there were bus stops nearby when we preferred not to walk. Here is a link to the apartment

B&B Asociation of Rome has a lot of nice apartments and B&B's available and their staff was very responsive.
