Where to stay in Paris
 

During my first trip to paris this summer I would like to find a budget hotel, although i don't know where to start. What area should I stay in? I'm trying not to spend over $100 a night got any recommendations?

It's going to be extremely difficult to find a decent hotel in Paris for $100 USD (84 euros), including tax. About the best I can offer is to check out the following web pages to see what's available.

I stayed at the Tourisme Hotel in Paris last November and it was terrific. I paid around 70 euros per night for a single room. It was very simple, but worked fine for me. The location was great...it's on Avenue de la Motte-Picquet, just steps away from the metro stop La Motte-Picquet – Grenelle.

We've stayed a number of times at the Hotel Senlis in the 5th near the Sorbonne and Pantheon.

It's a great budget hotel that is quiet, clean and charming. Singles start around 79 Euro and double at 85 Euro. The location is very convenient as well.

Everyone's standards are different, but here's a pleasant, family-run hotel in the 11th arrondissement, frequented mostly by European tourists, four Metro stations walkable and numerous good restaurant choices, with double rooms at 56 euros per night. Travel Library rates it 9.3 out of 19.

I would recommend the Pratic Hotel in the Marais - very close to the Metro St Paul.
Very close to restaurants, bakeries, shops etc.
I was there in Feb and it was 84 euros for 2
It has a very narrow staircase and we were on the fourth floor wiht no lift!! but it was in a great location.
It may be noisy in the summer as it overlooks a small square but was fine in the winter

I was specifically looking to stay in Montmarte and think the hotel is great value, rooms are small but thats Europe! They are clean and bathrooms again are small but functional and clean. Enjoy

The Familia Hotel in the 5th
The Hotel Jeanne d'Arc in the 4th
The Hotel du Champs de Mars in the 7th

All highly recommended and in your price range.

There's also Pension les Maronniers for about 50 euros I believe. In the 6th.

I second the Hotel du Champ de Mars. We stayed there in November. The price was about 79 euros for a nice room with a view of the top of the eiffel tower. We were in a great neighborhood filled with good restaurants and cafes.

Hotel Loiret in the Marais. €45 euro/night for room with sink only, €60 for double room with bathroom.

As far as 'standards' this was a small, clean family run hotel. The staff was friendly, it was in the great Marais district, close to metro stops, just a few blocks from Notre Dame and Ilse St. Louis. Skip the breakfast and grab coffee and pasteries from the excellent shop around the corner.

Seven floors, the elevator goes to the sixth.

Also recommended on another thread were the Hotel Chatillon Montparnasse (france-hotel-guide.com), where a double is about 68 Euros, and Hotel de Suez, doubles running 75-100 Euros.

Thanks for all the advice. From all your help I was able to find some great budget hotels, my only question is now what area to stay in? I'm in my 30's and I want to do all the touristy stuff.

I would say you would be the most happy in St. Germain des Pres, the Latin Quarter, or the Marais.

Where are the hotels?

I know there are people on this board that did not like this hotel, but we did~ so I will give you the name if you strike out on others. Hotel Riviera in the 17th worked out really well for us last spring. I found the recommendation on this board and it was close to the Arc ( great for transportation from the airport on the Air France shuttle) and there were three metro stations close. We had a double on the top floor for 78 euros.

I was thinking between Tourisme Hotel in the 15th arrondissement or the Hotel Senlis in the 5th arrondissement.

Of those two, I say Hotel Senlis. It is the perfect location for you. Not sure it has a.c. but you might not get that for a hotel in that price range.

The other place that is getting good reviews here and on other sites is the
Regent's hotel on Rue Madame. Its a great location. It gets good marks on Trip Advisor. Type in Regent's Hotel, Paris.

Don't confuse it with Hotel Le Regent on Rue Dauphine which is more expensive. Or Regents Garden Best Western.

I have noticed that most hotels in Europe don't have ac is there a reason why? and since i'll be there in July do you think I really should be looking for something that has ac?
