Where to Stay in or Near Braemar?

Hi All,
I am planning a 2013 visit to Scotland.

I came across the Braemar Gathering (1st Saturday in Sept) and thought it would be interesting to stop for a night or two to watch the natives engage in their exotic pagan rituals.

Last night on PBS's "Queen and Country" I discovered that the head tribal chief attends this ritual gathering every year.

So, figuring that the Braemar hotels are going to be filled next year, I thought I would get an early start:

I have the following places in mind:
Callater Lodge, Braemar
Clunie lodge, Braemar
Invercauld Arms, Braemar
Deeside Hotel, Ballater
OTHER?
All thoughts and suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

Anyplace in Braemar, Ballater, or anywhere along the Dee would be fine. The Games draw a big crowd so book as early as you can. Can't recommend a specific property (I've stayed in the area 6 or 7 times but mostly in rental cottages or a self catering resort for a week at a time.)

Maybe Sheila can help w/ recommendations.

We went to the Braemar games from this lovely, 5* B&B:

There are only 2 bedrooms here. The owners, Bruce and Carole, are lovely and their home is truly special.

Hi Jan,

Thanks for your response.

Is there a website where I can find out about the specific spot where the games are held, how to purchase tickets, if necessary, etc?

Hi crc,

Thanks for the link. Lovely house. I've sent an enquiry.

A 2-second google search leads to: http://braemargathering.org/

I expect accommodation in the area will be hard to come by. We stayed recently in a very nice small B&B in Ballater: http://www.tangleyhouse.co.uk/
