Where to stay in Old Town, Prague, The Czech Republic

I will be with my wife for just three days at the most in Prague at the very end of May 2009. Is this high season? Wish to stay very centrally located: Old Town: reasonable expense- US$300/night for hotel. Also advise on how to fill those few days walking and seeing most important aspects of Prague, possibly also Terezin. Thank you. Jack

Jack,
I have not been yet, but will be there in July and have been gathering a lot of info. The Palace Hotel Praha is a leading hotel of the world, and is having a "european sale" - a deluxe dbl for $156 euros. Almost sounds too good to be true. I am also looking at the Hoffmeister, the Maxmillian, and the Pachtuv Palace. As for tour of Terezin, I have been told to use Whittman tours. I hope you post a travel report when you get back so I can find out about your trip!

I can recommend the Hotel Savic. We stayed there for a week in October 2008 and liked every aspect of our stay.

I would definitely put Prague Castle at the top of sightseeing list. Ask your hotel how to take the tram up the hill, then walk back through (and explore) the Mala Strana quarter.

One way to see most of the top historical sights is to walk the Royal Road. Climb one of the towers for beautiful views.

I stayed at the Old Town Square Hotel in December. It's right on the square and I loved it. I think the website is www.otsh.com

Ditto the Pariz. We stayed tere in 2006. It has the greatest breakfast brunch (goes with the room).

Thank you. Does anyone know more details regarding Old Town Square Hotel: can three stay easily in the Junior Suite: the one king bed and the "two-bed" sofa?

Jack, I didn't stay at the Old Town Square Hotel. We stayed at the Savic Hotel. Our double room (#208) was definitely large enough to add another bed.
