Where to stay in Lucerne??

Can anyone recommend reasonable, but nice hotels in Lucerne and Engleberg??

Travelnut Feb 2nd, 2006 10:30 AM

Please define "reasonable", especially considering sky-high Swiss prices..!

We are looking to spend a maximum of $150-160. Of course, we'll take less( : Have you ever heard of Hotel Europe? Looking for something quaint and nice if that exists at those prices.

I78,

I like hotelguide.com, it has a wide variety of hotels to pick from and they will be many in your price range. We have stayed at several hotels in Lucerne and we have never had a bad experience. Have a good trip.

Hi Italia78,

A lot of people here like the Des Alpes (www.desalpes-luzern.ch), and I think the standard rooms are within your budget. Try doing a text search here to get specifics.

I looked at des Alpes and it looks nice. We are looking to stay in Lucerne for two nights in the spring. Their price for a superior double room with lake view is reasonable. Can anyone tell me if they can offer a true lake view? Are they on the lake or far from it? Any input would be appreciated.

luvtotravel,

Are you sure it said "lake" view? The hotel is not on the lake; it's on the river that feeds the lake.

I haven't stayed there, but I have stayed at the Des Balances next door, which also has not lake view but does offer river views.

The view from the Des Alpes looks like this:

And yes, we also enjoyed our stay there. You can't beat the location.

I only had lunch at des Alpes, and remember it as a perfect location on the river promenade at that famour bridge the name of which escapes me now (of course!) and close to shopping.

If you get the river view, it can't get better. If the other side... well... dunno... maybe a quiet plaza?

In my request to the hotel I mentioned "lake," so I guess they were responding in kind. River or lake, we want a "view," so either works.

The views look great in the webshots photos.

Thanks, everyone. That really helps us make a decision.

Mr.Go - I went to your pictures of the hotel and because they were so nice, I couldn't resist looking at your other albums. :) Wow! And thanks for publishing!
