Where to stay in London
 

I know I have asked questions about our 2005 England trip, but this one is different!

My husband and I stayed stayed in the 7th in Paris and LOVED it. We loved it b/c there were lots of restaurants and food shops (we are foodies!)within walking distance and b/c we felt like we were in a neighborhood rather than a tourist trap. We didn't mind taking the metro to the major sights.

When we go to London, we would like to stay in a similar area . . . residential, lots of restaurants nearby, etc. Having just begun researching the city, I was wondering if anyone out there could give me some info! I would hate to choose a hotel and feel like we had to travel to other parts of the city for dinner!

I would say Chelsea, but that's because it's my favorite neighbourhood. I like Myhotel Chelsea; in a residential neighbourhood, but very close to the King's Road, Brompton Cross, Walton Street. But really there are many other neighbourhoods that answer your description. Notting Hill for example.

London is full of neighborhoods with restaurants. There are restaurants literally everywhere. Your descriptions fits so many different areas, as notes in the above posts. And London is so easy to navigate (by either walking or underground) that you are never far away from yet another neighborhood with restaurants. Sounds like London will be the perfect place for you to visit! Good luck planning!

I would suggest South Kensington, Knightsbridge or Chelsea. All have residential areas and nice restaurants and are lovely sections to walk in. All but Chelsea have excellent access to the Underground - in Chelsea, you may have to walk a little further to the train.
