Where to stay in Korcula Island
My husband and I are planning a trip to Croatia next August and we need to decide where to stay in Korcula Island...
Is it nicer to stay in the Vela Luka area or near Korcula Town? We will be getting to Korcula from Split and then leaving for Mjlet. Is it there a difference in terms of convenience for the ferries? Thank you! |
Korcula has more in terms of historic sights and good restaurants, while Vela Luka is very quiet, but some nice beaches nearby. It depends on what you are looking for. Korcula town is gorgeous, but gets cruise ships.
VL is probably more convenient to get to from Split (you would then take a bus to Korcula town), but Korcula would be more convenient for the departure to Dbv or Mljet. Have you looked at schedules at http://www.jadrolinija.hr/? Read more about places on Korcula at these websites: http://www.korcula.net/naselja/index.html http://www.korcula.info/croatia/dalm...nd_korcula.asp |
thank you!

As yorkshire mentioned Vela Luka may be more convenient for the ferries, but for me Korcula town is much nicer. Vela Luka is a sleepy little town with some nice beaches but it does not have the historic value that Korcula town has. Korcula town has more restaurants and sites to see while Vela Luka is more like a beach resort town. I guess it depends on what you are looking for.

Since there's daily year-round catamaran service (Krilo Jet) from Korcula Town to Split, I'm not sure what the accessibility issue is - unless you don't like departing at 6:00 from Korcula on the way to Hvar and Split!
