Where to Stay in Kilkenny?
My husband and I will are thinking about spending a couple of nights in Kilkenny. Any suggestions for places to stay and eat? Thanks! ME

We stayed at the Ormond Hotel while in Kilkenny two years ago and really enjoyed it. It is in the heart of town and is very convenient yet is quiet, clean, and with all the amenities. The town is really beautiful with lots to see and do. Enjoy!

Yesterday I went for lunch to Mount Juliet Golf Club which is near Kilkenny city.I had no reservation and am not a member but I was served an excellent lunch for $24.Of the 30 or so people in the dining room I reckon that over 20 were American.Mount Juliet is a parklands course, not a links course which Americans traditioanlly play in Ireland.I visited Jerpoint Abbey, the ruins of a 12th century abbey nearby too.If I had the money I would stay in Mount Juliet Hotel for a few days.

We stayed at Ballaghtobin, about 30 minutes outside of Kilkenny, in April. It was absolutely lovely and we would have loved to stay longer. The room was beautifully appointed and we had a marvelous breakfast. We loved their dogs, but don't worry if you are not a dog person--we had to beg to see them, they normally stay in the family's area of the house. Website is www.ballaghtobin.com.
There are a number of things to sse nearby--Jerpoint Abbey, Nicholas Mosse pottery. In Kilkenny, visit the art studio and store in the stables of Kilkenny Castle. We also had a great lunch in their cafeteria.

Just returned from Ireland via England due to Aer Lingus strike. It's a great place. We stayed in a B and B there, walking distance (10 min.) from castle. The owners were incredible - Irish hospitality to the max. The place was called "Dunromin" email:[email protected]
There is a great Italian restaurant by the castle - a tiny place the name escapes me, but you can't miss it
Drop by a pub called Lonigan's
a great time!

My husband and I stayed at the River Court Hotel in Kilkenny two weeks ago. It's located directly across the water from Kilkenny Castle. It is in within walking distance from everything in Kilkenny and is a beautiful hotel.

We stayed at the Newlands two years ago. It's about 4-1/2 miles outside Kilkenny. Our room faced a field with cows grazing. It was very relaxing.

The owners might have sold it since our visit but their email information at the time was [email protected]

There are a ton of B&Bs in Kilkenny, and if you don't book ahead, there's a tiny tourist office in the middle of the town that can help you out.

I'll second the recommendation for the Italian restaurant near the castle. And I also can't remember the name. I was worried it would be touristy, but the food and service were both good.
