Where to stay in Galway area
 

Anyone have suggestions for an interesting place to stay in the Galway area. Must appeal to young adults as well as their parents.

Hi Chas,<BR>I just returned from Ireland, and was in Galway for a couple of days. It seems like a great town for young adults - tons of college students. We saw a Jurys Inn that seemed to be in the ideal location (didn't stay there, but wish we had). It is right in the main area near lots of pubs and restaurants. With young adults, I would make sure to stay somewhere in walking distance to that area because they may want to go to the bars at night. We did, and it was a very lively pub scene. There are some places that have live bands every night (rock bands as well as Irish music).<BR><BR>Have a great time in Ireland,<BR><BR>Keri

Chas,<BR><BR>Killeen House is located just outside Galway City (about a 10 minute drive). It's moderately priced, very clean, and quite appealing. It's located right on the main road that heads towards Cliden, but it's fairly quiet and far removed from the road. I think you and your travel mates would enjoy it, particularly given its proximity to the city as well as ease of access to the beauties of Connemara. Keri -<BR>Be glad that you didn't stay @ Jury's. We stayed there in November and HAD to have our room moved 3 times (unmade beds, for check-in), dead bugs in room, no heat in room. So where ever you stayed must have been better!<BR><BR>Also - Don't stay @ St Judes in Salthill, the hostess is the worst!<BR>

We stayed at the Spanish Arch Hotel, right in the old medieval part of Galway City...and loved it! It's within walking distance of pubs, restaurants, and shopping...and lots of young people. We were pleasantly surprised that it wasn't at all noisy at night given its location in a very active part of town.

Wow! I guess I am glad that I didn't stay at the Jurys then. We actually stayed in a lovely B&amp;B (Churchfield) that was on the Bay on the road toward Salthill. It was within a 10 minute walk of the city center, which was nice. The room was very small, but warm (it was cold outside) and comfortable. The hostess was wonderful, and the breakfast was delicious.<BR><BR>I would definitely recommend it, but I just thought the Jurys looked like a better location (for young people to walk to the pubs at night). <BR><BR>We walked to the city from our B&amp;B, but we were really cold! In warmer weather, it should be no problem at all.<BR><BR>Keri

A hotel

There is a strip of B&amp;B's on College Road. Some look better than others. I stayed at the Ardawn House, which was fine (the propietors were nice). Petra House also seemed to get decent reviews. Ardawn House was at the far end of College Road, and it only took about 10 minutes to walk to Eyre Square. <BR><BR>The B&amp;B's seemed convenient and functional (which was all I wanted) but if you want to stay somewhere with tons of charm, maybe someone else can help with that.<BR><BR>I will say that many of the B&amp;B's on college road had convenient parking!

we spent time at glenlo abbey in galway in 1997 and liked it so much we went back in 2001. enjoy.
