Where to stay in Florence Italy

My comp'd room just got un-comp'd in Florence and my budget was already fixed. Does anyone know of a quaint, clean, affordable place for 2 to stay in a good location in Florence?

We stayed here in 2006, and loved it. I can't say enough good things about it -- a very unique place. We stayed in the Actor's Suite, but we got to see all the suites, and they are all amazing. Great location, too.

Check out Hotel Balestri and Hotel Cestello for good three star accommodations.

back in 2006 I stayed at Hotel Globus. it was small, but clean and near the central market, easy to get to from the train station as well. back then it was 216 euros total for 2 nights for a double room with breakfast. had air conditioning and free internet access. did have to walk up a couple flights of stairs to get to the room.

I enjoyed my stay at www.hotelperseo.it
The staff was friendly and extemely accomodating. It is a three star hotel, and was located a block from Il Duomo and about a half mile from the train station. The room was very clean and modern, and the intenet connection was excellent (I like using my laptop when in the room). I thought it was a perfect location to walk to most attractions or sites. We paid 140 Euros for a double, but that was nearly two years ago.

Hotel Universo next to Church Santa Maria Novella and three blocks from main train station SMN. At $90/night with breakfast and internet access this deal was too good to passed on.

There's this really nice hotel with views of Piazza Della Signoria that offers excellent service and a really luxurious setting at about half the cost of a lot of Florentine hotels. The staff really makes you feel like home too, and the rooms are beautiful. I loved it there, and here's a link to some pictures of the place: http://www.italiancollection.com/en/...del-garbo.html

We spent 10 days at the Cascii, about two blocks from Duomo and in the other direction about two blocks to the galleria academia (David). Family run, bkfst, clean inexpensive. Looks funny from street, but very nice. Nice people.

We stayed at the Castri (not the same as the Cascii) on the Via Nazionale a few blocks to the left as you exit the train station. We got a very large room for a triple for 65E/night with a very good breakfast (rates are cheaper if you book in advance online). They are just now doing a refurb on their rooms putting in new furnishings (they had just pulled apart the lobby as we were leaving )as they were getting a bit dowdy. Many of the rooms overlook a garden. We had a great view of the Duomo. Had a very good experience there last week.
