Where to stay in Cyprus?

Hello,

I'm looking for places to stay in Cyprus that are off the beaten path...maybe small bungalows on the beach.

I'm not interested in resorts. I can get those in Miamia Beach. =)

Money is not a huge deal.

Thanks!

Hi sydpassin. Try agrotourism.com.cy plus do your own google seach of agrotourism in Cyprus for lots of websites for off the beaten track places.

On the beach and inbetween Paphos and Coral Bay (not feeling part of a resort at all) are waves-villas.com. Haven't stayed there but we did go to look at the two or three villas they have as we had tried to book one but they were full. Private pool and great view to the sea.

Last year we used irisvillas.com who specialise in off the beaten track villas. We stayed one week in a village higher up from Coral Bay (peyia), a 5-10 minute drive away but cooler in the height of summer.
The 2nd week we spent in a villa in a small village with only about 3 bars/restaurants (very cheap food and alcohol!), not that far from Latchi and Polis and their beaches, but high up and close to part of the Troodos Mountains.
It was still 'keep under the parasol' too hot (August) but cooler than the low coastal areas.
Certainly felt like you were living amongst the locals - no other tourists!

Don't know if you only want places that are right on the beach so I will only give our village retreat villa name if asked. (too beautiful and perfect to share :D )

Other websites which may be useful:

villaselect.co.uk
paphos-villas.com
cyprus-holiday-villas.com
somethingspecial.com
paphos-villas.co.uk
pafos-villas.com
venusvillas.co.uk
villaspaphoscyprus.com
aphroditesun.com
holiday-cyprus.com
villasdiamond.com

Have a great time :)

Sydpassin- I'd suggest the area round Latsi near Polis- or even north of Polis on the west coast.

Or in the mountains. Anywhere else is pretty built up these days.

Thank you so much for all the helpful information.

I just found out today that flights doubled in price this week and now I'm not sure if my husband and I will make it to Cyprus. It seems ridicules to pay $650/person for a 40 minute flight.

Hopefully a miracle will happen and flights will go back down again. =)

Thanks again.

Out of curiosity, the 40 minute flight you mentioned is from where to Cyprus?

sydpassin Apr 21st, 2004 08:13 AM

That flight is from Tel Aviv to Cyprus.

I just found a deal (!) on El Al for $415.

Cyprus Airways has airfares from USD218 to USD378 (exc apt taxes) for Tel Aviv/Larnaca but they must be purchased locally i.e. in the middle east-they are not saleable internationally.

Go to North Cyprus and try going up the 'Pan Handle' if you want to get away from it all. The North is far cheeper and the people are some of the most hospitable you will ever meet and crime is non existant. Miles of unspoilt country side with empty wonderful beaches where turtles still nest. Noth Cyprus is paradise in the Med.

And an illegal unrecognised regime

Try Villa Paradise :

http://agrino.org/pcbits

As for the North Part is not legal so it is a risk and unsafe to go there

Bye

topping... for my own future reference...

And mine... nudge nudge wink wink.

When I see that the tickets are actually issued and in my hand, I will start a new thread on trying to figure out how to spend our week (Sep 30 to October 7) there. In the meantime, will appreciate any other worthwhile links here. Havne't even begun to think about an itinerary - - and not ruling out a 2-3 day side excursion to Athens? or Rhodes? or any other low-priced side trip possibility come to mind?

I realize that you have stated (here? elsewhere?) that a week can easily be filled on Cyprus alone, but I think my wife would really like to see some of other Greece, and who kows when we will get there (especially when I allow serendipity to choose the skeleton of my Europe trips for me!)

Gardyloo Apr 5th, 2006 07:20 PM

Rex, weren't you thinking about a trip to Israel one of these days? You can fly there on Air Cyprus for around US$250 RT from LCA. Very short hop. I think that's what we're likely to do.

rex Apr 5th, 2006 07:51 PM

Well, it has crossed my mind - - but I think I would rather study Greek (I realize that Cyrpus is reported to be very English-friendly). I am curious about basing a few days in/on Rhodes (closest island at about 200 miles? do I have that right?)

Will listen carefully to what Sheila has to say. And not count my chickens before they hatch (this, and the dialogue between myself and Gardyloo is in reference to the near-giveaway fare of $39 CAD biz class Toronto-Cyprus which some of us think we were able to purchase today as a "mistake" fare - - assuming that Alitalia actually honors the fare!)

sheila Apr 6th, 2006 03:17 AM

The standard side trip from Cyrus is the Holy Land. Israel and Egypt, sometimes the Greek Isles. But, frankly, Rex, I thought better of you:)

Cyprus is a big island; there is no reason to leave it in as short a period as a week.

If you got the flight, base yourself in the West. The best artefacts and antiquities are there anyway.

rex Apr 6th, 2006 03:27 AM

It's all moot, Alitalia is pulling the plug on (presumably) all the sales of the "mistake fare".

You thought better of me that I would not purchase a "mistake fare"?
