where to stay in Capri?

We just booked a flight for our 10th anniversary and will return to Positano for 5 days. We plan to stay in Rome for 4 nights and then want to go to Capri for two nights before heading to Positano.
Does anyone have recommendation of nice location, place to stay (moderate price, we are flexible)in Capri? Thanks

Haven't stayed there myself, but we plan on going and staying at the Weber Ambassador hotel right on the water.

Several friends stayed there on 2 occasions and loved it. Check it out under Trip Advisor.

Define moderate. Can't tell if La Tosca is too cheap for you, or just right.

drkathej Jan 19th, 2009 04:44 PM

Moderate is probably the equivalent of 3 star and around $150 to $175 per night. Montesolaro looks intriguing and I will check on trip advisor for the other.

I would never stay anywhere except for Quisisana on Capri. Take a loan out if you have to. Really, darling, there is simply NO OTHER place to stay.

Luna is not too bad, but the staff is very rude.

I don't think I would take a loan out to stay at the Quisisana on Capri. I didn't like it very much. Alot of the rooms look onto the common grounds and pool. Didn;'t like the pool, not really fond of the restaurant either. Mostly were filled with Russians and Europeans when I was there, and it was a little too snooty for my taste.

If you want to take a loan out for a Hotel, would recommend the Hotel du Cap Eden Roc, in Antibes, now thats worth the loan! Back in the day, it was cash ONLY no credit cards.

Getting back to Capri, You might look at hotels in ANA CAPRI, a nicer area of Capri, sometimes the Capri Palace Hotel has good deals. Much better choice than the others recommended.

Hi drkathej; If you consider Ana Capri, this was a lovely place to stay. villalescale.com/ ENJOY Iris

>Mostly were filled with Russians and Europeans when I was there<

And what is wrong with that? Do you have something against Russians (who are European by the way) and other European people?

I think it is you who are the snob. Get a clue.

drkathej: We enjoyed our stay at the 3-star La Minerva. It's in a decent location, spotlessly clean, has great views and good service.

Here's what we said about it in our trip report:
http://www.onelittleworld.com/campania_10.html

Here's the opening page of that report, which also includes Positano:

Both links include pix, btw. Hope this helps.

Thin: I never stated that there was a problem with it being filled with Russians, just a matter of fact. If you wanted to practice your russian, it would be a plus- get a life Thin!

For the price range you're looking for here's a bnb with fantastic views and excellent reviews. Their double is between 100-130 Euro.

Thank you for the numerous suggestions. Unfortunately, the Quisisana would be out of my price range, especially if I want to have any dinners during the trip.
I have a question regarding location as the various recommendations seem to be in different parts of the island. What would be a good location--beautiful but accessible to restaurants? That will help to guide me as to which ones I should contact as they all look nice.

The Monte Solaro is up the hill above Anacapri. The hosts drove us to and from restaurants, the bus stop, etc and even drove us all the way back to the ferry wharf upon our departure.

I liked the Hotel Weber Ambassador in Marina Piccola. They have a nice, quiet location with amazing views of the Faraglioni rocks. They also offer a free shuttle into Capri which was really nice. We were only there one night but I wish we could have stayed longer! The breakfast buffet is huge and delicious.

This isn't a quaint, local little place but it doesn't feel like a chain hotel either. We really enjoyed sitting on our balcony watching the sunset with a bottle of wine, some cheese & prosciutto.

Enjoy!

We stayed at Aiano Bed & Breakfast in Capri July 2008. It was FANTASTIC. Three of us shared a room for three nights and it cost $700 total (included breakfast). They have stunning views. Check out their website: www.aiano.it. Good luck!

drkathej Jan 24th, 2009 11:28 AM

Thanks for all of the help! The winner is: Hotel Weber Ambassador. We can't wait to go. It looks lovely.
I contacted Monte Solaro and they didn't have availability. I could not get through to Aiano and, I didn't go for the super expensive ones because we would prefer to have some great dinners.
By the way, does anyone have some dinner recommendations?

orangetravel Jan 25th, 2009 07:26 AM

For dinner, Il Tinello and La Cisterna were great for reasonably priced Italian food with a local feel. Both in Capri center.
