Where to stay in Bavaria
I would like some suggestions from the board on where to stay in Bavaria mid April 2008-
Only requirements: -Non smoking -Some distance from the tour buses so can avoid all of the crowds -Clean bathroom- cannot smell must/moldy as I am allergic. This is most important. Will spend one night to tour Fussen; Neuschwanstein; Hohenschwangau; Onderhof; Garmisch Partenkirchen; Zugspitze We will have a rental car so location does not need to be next to train/bus stop. Many thanks! |

We stayed just over the Austrian border at the Hotel Moserhof in Reutte. It is a very nice place - family run hotel with a good restaurant, nice rooms, and a reasonable rate.
As a note on bathrooms and hotel rooms in Germany and Austria - we stayed in 3 hotels in Germany and 1 hotel in Austria and all 4 rooms were immaculate. I have a mild mold allergy, so I can spend a couple nights around mold without too many issues, but I definitely know the mold is there. I didn't detect a trace, even in the hotel where we stayed in Nuremberg, which was quite old. |
As much I as I love Rick Steve's I did not like staying Ruette. Would have much prfered staying in Fussen or Kempten.

I loved Reutte. It probably was my favorite place on our trip in July to Germany and Austria. I loved our hotel(Das Beck), loved the town, thoroughly enjoyed the Plansee, the mountains, driving around the area, etc. It was such a relaxing part of our trip and I am glad (plus my three teenagers too) that we stayed there!

Hi,
Yet another vote for Hotel zum Hechten. We've stayed there twice. Paul |

Hi
Last year we stayed at the Mercure Hotel in Partenkirchen. It fit your requirements when we stayed there. It was also within walking distance from the center. It also had free parking. We stayed there about 4 nights and would take day trips using it as a base. |
We loved Burghausen. We stayed at Hotel Burblick across the river in Ach, Austria. Fabulous view of the village of Burghausen, right on the river, immaculate rooms and bathrooms, lovely breakfast. Walk everywhere. Medieval villages. Very quiet. Special.

Your suggestions have been wonderful!
Where would you suggest to stay in Freiburg. We will stay in Freiburg one night before traveling onto Bavaria. Same requirements: Non smoking and clean bathroom- cannot smell must/moldy as I am allergic. I booked the Colombi but is rich for our buget. Where do you recommend? |
We loved the Hotel Alleehaus in Freiburg. Lovely short walk to the cathedral and its daily market. Tall ceilings, airy rooms, wonderful breakfast, parking is available. Definitely hope to return someday.

I'm not sure whether the Alleehaus is non-smoking or not, but I'm sensitive to cigarette smoke, and at no time did I detect any in the hotel.
If you need one at that point in your trip, there's a small self-service laundromat on the right as you walk into the center of the city. |
