where to stay in Athens and Amsterdam

I'll be in Athens for 1 - 2 nights at the end of October. And then in Amsterdam for 2-3 nights. Suggestions for accommodations for a single woman?
Thank you

We have always stayed at the Hotel Washington. If you look at the Fodor's Amsterdam site you will find the specific info. I don't know much about their rooms for singles. BUT it is a lovely neighborhood. I have felt very safe there, it seems more residential. It is close to the Museumplein and trams.

I suggest you check it out as a possiblility.

What is your budget? How nice of hotel would you like to stay in? I have hotel suggestions for both cities, but need to know a little bit more first.

I haven't been to Amsterdam, but we stayed at the Attalos Hotel near the Plaka in Athens.

Here's the website. They're a budget hotel (we spent about $80/night for a double) in a great location. I really appreciated the helpfulness of the staff, and it's right near a new metro stop.

The added bonus was a rooftop bar that faces the Acropolis.

Reasonably priced hotel would be preferable - is it possible to get accommodations for less than $100/night?

although i am not as fond of the attalos as many people here, it is a decent place to stay for a single woman because it is so close to the metro and decent restaurants. plus it is within your budget.

although it is a little bit more expensive, i prefer the adrian hotel.

the cecil hotel is well located, but not as nice as either the attalos or adrian

as for amsterdam, as i'm sure you have noticed, it is a lot more expensive than athens. last time i was there by myself, i stayed at the hotel brouwer. it was well located and perfect for a single woman. plus it is well within your price range. the URL for the hotel brouwer is: http://www.hotelbrouwer.nl/index.html

I stayed at Hotel Kap in Amsterdam (solo and female). It is in your price range. Nice enough 3-star with good location near Leidseplein and pleasant breakfast included in room price.

I strongly suggest the Seven Bridges Hotel in the canal rings district of Amsterdam. The location is perfect and the rooms are charming. A room for one person (a double) starts at 90 Euro (not sure what October is). As mentioned above, rooms is Amsterdam are expensive compared to elsewhere in Europe.

Here's their website, but please note (as the website shouts) that they prefer you CALL them to inquire about rooms - do not email them for prices/availibilty. Take a look.

I second the suggestion to stay neat Leidseplein in Amsterdam... it's a great location with lots of places to eat, very lively in the evenings, lots of trams, etc.

Leidseplein and Vondelpark districts were my favorite parts of the city, also the canal rings... I did not like the central part near the train station and the Dam at all and was really glad my hotel was elsewhere.
