Where to stay in Amalfi Coast????
My wife and I are planning on spending five nights in the Amalfi Coast this coming June. After reading review after review I'm no closer to picking a town to stay in let alone a hotel in a town....can someone offer some suggestions?? Should we stay in Positano, or is Amalfi or Ravello just as good?? If we stay in either Positano, Amalfi or Ravello, where should we stay. We're looking to keep the hotel price under $300 USD/night.

How can anyone answer this for you? You can't really go wrong in any of the places you mention. Positano is on hillsides reaching down to the sea, Ravello is high above the sea, Amalfi is more of a port city. All will be crowded in June.

Hi
Yes, tough choice. I have been to Positano and rave about it. We stayed at a cheapie - Brikette Hostel - and really liked it. And our next door neighbours stayed at Villa Rosa - http://www.villarosapositano.it - and loved it. For 160E you get a magic terrace and good breakfast. Hope this helps |
why not spend 3 nights in positano and 2 in ravello. i did this a couple of years ago. if you click on my name, you'll probably access my review of villa rosa hotel, which we loved. we stayed in a small former convent/monastery in ravello, which was charming, but the rooms were a little too small and spartan. there are better options in ravello.

Hi,
We spent 6 days on the Amalfi coast in Praiano, which is between Positano and Amalfi. It is a very small town on the main road. We took ferries or buses to all the other towns. The best part was the hotel, Tramonto D'Oro. It is a fabulous hotel on the road with the rooms cascading down the hill side with wonderful views of the sea and Positano. the restaurant also has this fabulous view. There is a very large roof top pool, which was perfect for relaxing after a day of sight seeing. the price for the hotel is under $300, and a great place to stay. Although the town is small there are restaurants and wonderful walking trails. It is hard to go wrong any where on the Amalfi coast as it is so beautiful and you will have a wonderful vacation. Enjoy! |
My husband and I also stayed at the Villa Rosa in Positano last July (villarosapositano.it) and it was wonderful! 150 EU/night for beautiful white and yellow tiled room, private bath, a/c, delicious breakfast on our balcony each morning, short walk to shops/beach, and very nice staff. I would highly recommend it. Ravello is spectacular, but you won't be as close to the water. We took a day trip there. By the way, Villa Rosa overlooks the famous 'Le Sirenuse' hotel which is easily double the cost, which means you basically get the same amazing view! You can check out my trip report about our stay on the Amalfi Coast.

All nice places, but what are your plans while you're there? If you're planning to go to Pompei, Herculaneum, Naples, and Capri, then you might consider staying at least a few nights in Sorrento where transportation options are numerous.
