Where to stay family of 5 in Rome? Hotel or rental suggestions please!!

Staying in Rome for 5 nights, family of 5. Would like ot be in walking distance to central sites, ie.. Vatican. One suggestion I got is the www.Almesromabb.com bc of its location..
Has anyone stayed here and what other suggestions do you have? I have been googling but prefer personal recommendations. Thank you so much!!

1hf- I have successfully used both RentalInRome.com and SleepInItaly.com for apartments in Rome. I can highly recommend either.

But you are shopping rather late, so you should get this pegged down quickly. I did find several good options on RentalInRome.

Look for apartments in Piazza Navona, Campo de Fiori, Trevi Fountain. (In that order.) Those spots are all walking distance to most of the tourist sites. (The Vatican is west of the Tiber, so is going to be a longer hike. But you can always take the bus, metro or taxi.)

Good luck!

We have used sleepinitaly.com. There were five of us last time, we stayed in the Corso Yellow. It was very nice, there was road noise but it wasn't too much for us, sleeping was no problem. The location was great, there was a lift and I think there was even AC (we were there in April so didn't need it).

An apartment will definitely be more affordable with a family of 5.
I personally would not stay near the Vatican. It is off and away from the rest of the city sights. I would look for apartments that are more centrally located to the main sights in the city. Also, make sure the apartment has air conditioning. I will be hot and many places are not air conditioned (for example, the vatican itself. So, morning tours will be better).

We stayed in a hotel using points and it was not walkable to the sights, they had a shuttle. So I won't recommend where we stayed.
Sleep in Italy is a good website to check.

I would avoid the area around the train station...seedier and not as convenient as piazza Navona or camp di fiori.

You could also look in trastevere close to the river

We used www.romepower.com when we rented for a family of 7. It had a double bedroom and a bedroom with 3 singles plus two bathrooms in a fabulous location on via guilia. We also used the sofa bed but it would be great for a family of 5...let me see if I can find it.

That B&B/apartment is not very centrally located at all; it's not even very near the Vatican.

I use www.booking.com to find lodging. If you put your destination as "Rome city centre", all the options they show you will be centrally located. If you enter "1 room" and "5 people", almost all of the lodgings they show you will either be apartments or family suites. Putting in some random dates in late June/early July, I found these, for example:

http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/rsh-...nts.en-gb.html
http://www.booking.com/hotel/it/hote...oma.en-gb.html

I prefer staying in hotels rather than apartments, but when traveling with a group of five, I'd want an apartment myself. The best compromise, in my opinion, is an apartment managed by a hotel. For that reason, I'd probably prefer the Apollo above. The location is perfect; I love Via Leonina, where the apartment is located. I also like the fact that you check in at the hotel: no need to carry cash to pay the keyholder, and you can drop off your bags before checkin so that you can start sightseeing immediately, and they'll hold them for a few hours after checkout, if you still haven't seen everything.

The other apartment is also in an excellent location, and has a terrace.

Piazza Navona area would be most central for all the tourist sites including the Vatican.

Trastevere is a beautiful, more peaceful area, but it is a bit away from things.
it has a more of a village feel to it.

Don't know if dates work for you, but we have stayed here and can recommend it (double bed, twins and sleep sofa):

It is in Campo dei Fiori area so very convenient.
