Where to stay? Brugge or Brussels

My friend and I are traveling from Luxembourg to Amsterdam and want to stay in Belgium for a night on the way. We were talking about going to Brugge, but stopping in Brussels for the day, then on to Brugge for the night?

If we do this, we also need a nice easy place to stay in Brugge.

Any suggestions?

Hi sd,

I would spend the day in Bruges and the night in Brussels.

I much prefer Brugge over Brussels. It's such a beautiful little town, and it's even better at night. I stayed at a budget hotel called Lucca, but there are tons of options.

I agree....Brugges is gorgeous! I would spend the time there.

Another vote for Brugge, it is beautiful and has tons of B & B's as well as hotels. When are you going? We have been twice in May with no rerservations and found a room with no problem. Just book early in the day and sight-see later. Except for the old town core, Brussels is just another big city.

We will be leaving Luxembourg on May 7th, so need a room for that night. Then on to Amsterdam on the 8th.

If we get into Brugge in the afternoon, do you think that would be too late to make reservations? I think I would rather make them ahead of time.

What is the opinion?

We were in Brugge last Sunday and having been to both Brussels and Brugge now, I vote again for staying in Brugge.

May 7th? You will not have a problem finding a room but check the holiday schedule. The town has its own web site, see www.brugesinfo.com They will list holidays. That would be your only problem finding a room. Did you read reviews on www.TripAdvisor.com
I'm sure the have something listed that would fit your needs. There are over 250 reviews of places to stay.

I'd vote for visiting Brugge and staying in Antwerpen if you like great dinners and drinking. If you like active daytime touristing and quiet nights, tour Antwerpen in daylight and sleep in Brugge.

In Brugge, I was very happy at the quiet Jan Brito. In Antwerpen, I was overjoyed with t'Sandt, which has a fantastic restaurant across the street and is a stone's throw from the town's best beer and gin (jenever) houses.
