where to stay between san sebastian and madrid
 

Would love ideas of a town to stay for a night or two between San Sebastian and Madrid---driving---for family of four---want a small town, perhaps biking/hiking, good food.

Burgos is my suggestion too.

Love Burgos! Especially the trees that grow together over the walkway near the church.

I did Burgos as a stopover between Santander and Madrid (although mine was by bus) and really enjoyed it. Of course, the Cathedral is not to be missed!

Forgot to add that in Burgos I enjoyed very much my dinner at Meson del Cid.
