Where to stay between Geneva to Chamonix

My family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children aged 6 & 8) will be arriving in Geneva at 9am on a flight from Paris, and will be travelling to Chamonix the next day. Do we stay in Geneva or perhaps stay somewhere along the route to Chamonix? Are there any towns/villages along the way which are interesting/quaint enough for a one night stay? We won't have a car so trains/buses are a must. Thankyou

Geneva is only an hour's drive from Chamonix. You can get a shuttle that'll pick you up from the airport directly to your hotel.

If you want to go the long way around to Chamonix, the most wonderful town to stay at is Montreux on the lake. It's called the Riviera of Switzerland. It's on the train line so you can take the train to Montreux, spend a day or two, then get the train to Chamonix. You'll need to change trains at Martigny to get on the narrow gauge rail up the mountain to Vallorcine. Here there's another change of trains onto the French train system - it's the trains that ply the Chamonix Valley between Vallorcine and St Gervais.

But, yes, Montreux is really delightful and charming.

The great thing about Chamonix is that it is located close to some very interesting towns eg: Annecy, Geneva, CERN, Turin, Courmayeur, Montreux to name a few.

Have fun!
