Where to stay 1 night on Brac?
Still massaging the itinerary. and Just want a day on the beach. And concerned that 3 nights in Trogir might be too much?
Now thinking: Plitvice 2 nights Split (hotel Peristil) 1 night Brac 1 night Trogir (nice hotel with bfast in center) 2 nights Hvar Town (Krizni Rat, Bicanic Apartment) 3 nights Korcula (2 nights) Dubrovnik (4 nights) We'll have car, and I've checked june car ferry Split to Brac. (yes, Yorkshire, we'll go to beautiful Vis next time!) Anyone want to suggest best, romantic, pretty hotel for two in late 40's? We don't have children. Thanks all! |
If you want a great beach, Zlatni Rat of Bol on Brac is pretty impressive, though crowded. That said, as much as I like the secluded little rocky beaches of Dalmatia, for ease of swimming nothing beats Zlatni Rat. You go from smooth pebbles to clear water in seconds. They have kept the development sane as well, with the hotels among trees. You can also drive to the mountain above it for amazing views. If it is too crowded, move down the coast.
There is also a monastery on Brac that is difficult to get to (I couldn't make it)--I hope you get to! The tourist office of Bol rented us a really nice apartment at the edge of town overlooking a hillside of wildflowers (great views of stars at night). Alternatively, you have a car so you could look into Milna. I did not make it all the way there but have heard many nice things about that town. In Bol, I recommend Konoba Jadranka for dinner. here's more about Brac towns: http://www.otok-brac.info/eng/INDEX.HTM |
Hello Yorkshire,
That is some of the most beautiful and inspired writing I have read about anywhere in Croatia, and if you can pass on any other reading suggestions that will engage my inner soul before my travels, I would be so appreciative. It is so easy to travel as a casual and "superficial" tourist -- especially in light of short visits. But for me, if I carry such poetry in my heart, I will see and experience a place more deeply, even if my time is brief. Thank you for reminding me of where I am going... I'm not just going to apartments and hotels so excruciatingly deliberated and fussed over (all this fuss pains me...) I know that none of us are -- but in the process of planning, we lose sight of what we're really after. Here's a short excerpt from the page in Yorkshire's post above. It is written by Peter Simunovic (I'll be looking him up for more about other areas in Croatia) I hope everyone will read the whole, even with no plans of travel to Brac. ".... Spring is most beautiful in the coves of Brac, particularly on the unpopulated western coast of the island, where the steep wooded slopes are overgrown with wild Mediterranean pine and the small beaches resemble strings of pearls. The coves are drowsy in the morning as dreams and melancholy abandon them for a while, and they are awakened by the dawn and the trembling breeze in the pine needles, and flurried by the fishermen who. haul in their nets on the promontories..." Thanks Yorkshire! |

I have booked Apartment Bicanic No. 3 for 5 nights in August. Did you enjoy your stay there. |
not sure if you're staying 3 nights in Trogir or in Hvar.
If staying in Trogir 3 nights then I would give one to Bol. I stayed in Trogir for 4 nights - which was plenty - I did a day trip to Krk and Sibenik. Maybe combine Trogir and Split? It's pretty easy to get to Split. I really like Brac - very different than Hvar. Bol has a nice buzz - not as swish swish at Hvar Grad. Pucisca is home to a stone cutting school - the island is practically all marble. 3 nights in Hvar is great - allows one dat to explore the town and enjoy the scene, another day to explore the island and 1 more day to find a cove to relax at. |
Hello ts
I loved every place we stayed on our trip to croatia last year. We were at Apartment Bicanic for 3 nights, and simply loved it, same apt that you have booked. below is a copied post i just made elsewhere: .............We stayed last summer, right down the road from domus marini. I remember looking up at the pretty bulding. It is a very pretty residential shoreline. Very lush, flowers every where. The views are fantastic from that shoreline. And I enjoyed my afternoon swims everyday! It is a bit of a walk into town, sometimes seeming longer at nite after too much good food and wine.... Your walk follows along the shoreline, and it does pass by an extremely ugly apartment building (the old hotel bodul, not in view at all from your shoreline location), but I would stay there again (Apartment Bicanic). Look them up. We had the apartment with the porch covered in grape vine... such extraordinairy views!!!! I wanted to cry when we left, and in fact, when we caught the ferry to Korcula, it took us 'round the bend and we got to look back on Hvar, and we could see our apartment. I wanted to cry again! Korcula soothed the pain. I was in love again, with yet another island.... Have a great trip! |
4everywhere -
I came across that Peter Simunovic's writing about Brac a few years ago - really captures Brac beautifully. Each island is so unique and different. Would like to say I'm going back this year but I've decided to go to the Greek islands this year. |
Ah, the Greek Islands may be in our future one day too. Maybe as a bareboat sail trip...
Nonetheless, I sure hope we get back to Croatia. I'd like to cycle Istria, and maybe try Vis and Brac... Hhmmmm..... Dreaming, yet on our way to Peru in a couple of weeks. |
