Where to Spend St Patricks Day

My daughter(20 years old)and I plan on being in Ireland for March 17th. Where is a good place for some good fun, food, and music? And that may have rooms available?
Thanks

Dublin. St. Patricks Day in Ireland is not the festive event it is in America. Americans somehow turned it into a "partylike" holiday but it is regarded differently in Ireland. However Dublin recently decided to capitalize on this event with a weeklong festival and it was an additional boost to tourism (not that they needed it) for March. I think that if you stay anywhere other than Dublin for St Pats and you're expecting a parade, drinking, etc., you may be disappointed. Hurry up and book your rooms before they're gone and have a fun time.

Sami - if it's not festive, why the need to hurry up and book?

Hi Kim,

My wife and I spent last St Patricks day in Ireland.

We eliminated Dublin as toooooo touristy with waiting in line for everything - based on advice from many.

We ended up staying near Ennis (Shannon) but visiting several cities during the day. Each had some sort of parade. Afterwards many folks adjourn to a pub, as a family - not for a party, but for a gettogether.

Have fun.

Kim - I was in Ireland last year at that time with my mother and sister in Galway. I found it quite chaotic and unappealing as the streets were filled with youths and I mean young teens as well as older and all the pubs were jammed and this was on a sunday. We had been in Doolin earlier in the day and should have stayed there and just snuggled up in a booth at O'Connors for a more quiet evening. Depends on what you prefer, I guess. We ended up going to bed early and being woken by the drunks all night as we stayed in Salt Hill in a B&B. I'd book right away, though, if I were you as it can be difficult to find rooms any time of year in the bigger cities. Have fun
