We are a family of 4 (kids ages 21 and 17) and we will be spending 3 nights in Paris until December 23rd and then will be going to Chamonix on December 26th. Need to find a nice city to spend 3 nights during Christmas. As far as how to get to Chamonix, we are planning to fly into Geneva from wherever we decide to go. We had initially thought of Prague but we are a bit concern about weather since it can be very cold, we already have a hotel booked in Prague; then we started considering Aix en Provence. Any suggestions?

For the Christmas holidays I would stick with Paris and/or Madrid, where there is always something to do, and usually no snow. But who knows?

If you don't mind a little snow, there are hundreds of places you could go where they celebrate the season.

Have you been to paris several/many times? If not, I'd stay in Paris. Three nights (2.5 days) is not very long in Paris, especially over the hollidays.

I would stay in Paris or if you must leave, look into Strasbourg (if you can find hotel or apt to stay in). Great Christmas markets and decorations.

Thank you for your responses, we have actually already spent Christmas in Paris and we wanted to explore a new city or a new town. At any time on the 26th we will fly to Geneva and then drive to Saint Gervais to spend 8 days at a private home with family friends. We just need to find something for those 3 days.

Have you been to Amsterdam? Check to see if what' going on interests you (most things are open, including many museums), but it's easy to get to, and easy to get to the airport.

(Sorry, it's cold in Amsterdam, but you'll have warm clothes for Chamonix -- I hope! -- and there is lots to do indoors in Amsterdam)

Then Strasbourg would be perfect IMO

I think I would have a look at Strasbourg unless you have been there before. A nice mix of French and Germanic that's quite unique.

And there's no need to fly to Geneva - you can train there in about 4 hours.

Yes -- I <i>thought</i> I had posted that but must have deleted it before posting. It is easier to take the train from Strasbourg to Geneva then to fly from Paris (or anywhere else)

Not allergic to Christmas Markets at all. Sandralist, really like the link on Amsterdam, we had initially looked at going there and then moved on to Prague.

Never been to Strasbourg either, so that is a great option too.

So NO Prague then?

I have been in Paris at Christmastime, and was going to suggest that you remain there. Then, hmmm? Lyon, Barcelona...Rome?
